I finally got ahold of my best friend who lives in Japan and he is fine as is his family. He is now living in Tokyo and not traveling as much.

That is great to hear. How is the public Tokyo handling everything?

He told me that it is very sad and people are very spooked. His elder family was close enough to feel the power of the quake.

They are just so effed over there right now.

Benefits to purchasing a different vehicle:

Better MPG

Overall, wont have to fear to drive it (feel like it will break down)

insurance goes down

maintence IS A big thing. (clutch replacement is 1200) AND mitsubishi only warrenties there clutches for 12k miles.

You should weigh your true costs.

Buying - selling + maintenance + insurance + gas and then make the decision. At some point a more fun car is worth it, at others it isn't at all.

last I heard it was 821 mrem/hr at the site boundary; considering that anything about background levels at the site boundary is usually a cause for alarm, its quite troubling. Even my father, with 20+ in the industry, said "holy shit!" when he heard the radiation levels

or a mini pickup. I would suggest an f150 but insurance may kick your ass on that one too.

Thankfully all of the reactors are completely shut down; the problem now is dissipating the residual heat from the reactor vessels

stopped at a crappy chinease buffet for lunch as I had to travel today and it's just a block away from my location.

It's so wild how this place can be the healthiest and least healthy place to eat depending on choices. It's also cheep as hell.

I watch fatty office people slam noodles and sugary sauced fried foods... then a group of laborers eating a billion shrimp and piles of vegis.

cracks me up.
