am I the only one who has had bad experiences with euro/pillow tops?

What was the problem?

Between the half dozen pillowtops we've had, all of them had them had the same problem: the pillowtop itself stopped springing back. So basically instead of being flat there's a bunch of craters in the pillowtop. Not the mattress itself, just the pillowtop.

Other than cosmetically was there a problem?

Definitely not just cosmetic

which is the major reason my parents went with a 100% latex mattress the last time they bought one; mighty damned good too, no craters/holes

latex is the most "resilliant" foam when it comes to that. It's also one of the most expencive.

I have been sleeping on this for about 7 years now.

I sleep on one too. My roomate does, there is one in my spare bedroom. Another old roomate got one too. 2 friends got one from me also, and then their parents did. 2/3 of the guys who I sold beds with do too.

Sweet, glad to hear that. Did you sell them before?

I sold quite a bit..... maybe 15% of my sales(by volume) were from their product. That says a lot as their price isn't the lowest. I believed in what they made when I was selling beds.

Do you still feel the same way about them?

I honestly don't know the new line up. I would look at them first if I was shopping again though.

Are you still happy with your bed? I love mine, helps with joint pain nicely.

It's about 8 years old so it's seen better days. But no reason to change it up yet. Still comfy as can be, I give it another few years barring any real bad dammage.

A working box spring helps a lot I think.

That's absurd. Normally I ask how much and the answer is normally $5k, but I can get you a better price. How much? $2k. Ouch, too much. Okay $1500

Easiest sales people to negotiate with ever IMO.

About right. If they don't negotiate just leave. I could go to ~50% off anything new or floor model with "approval" from a DM. Clearance could be trimmed a lot more.

Usually I would get to just above 50% and then call for forgiveness later if I ever needed to get to 50%. I heald line price a lot better than most though so I didn't drop trou so fast. Usually I would give more free jazz away and work it out of the price so I wasn't eating ramen.... Then I became a manager and volumed everything if I couldn't hold line.

misalignment on the back, hips, and/or knees; two of said pillowtops my parents got were ~$1000 (half off sticker) and also had the same cratering issues after less than 3 years

400 bucks every 5-6 years or 800 bucks every 10-12 works out about the same. As for the lower quality foam, see my above post. I dunno, maybe we're buying the wrong brands? So far we've had Restonic, Sealy, Serta, Stearn's & Foster, and King Koil. The pillowtops cratered, none of the tight tops nor the latex ones have

If it has gaps, springs may not be supported on a flat surface and could cause them to buckle. But for most beds today a really hard flat surface is fine. A working box with a mattress is ideal however.

I bought a Eurotop last year. The first thing I will say is I sweat like crazy sleeping on the memory foam thats used for the pillow top. As it retains way to much heat. I had a Simmons Beautyrest pillowtop before, that I bought new 10 years ago. They used alot less foams ten years ago. I am not that crazy about the foams as I feel that they offer alot less support.

Serta used to be pretty awesome, but maybe they started slacking. King koil is bad news bears a lot of the time even though their product was fine the QC was not so good.

amount of soft stuff on top doesn't affect the support at all actually. So long as it's even and made well.

Given the same coil system a softer bed will 100% of the time be more supportive than a harder bed as the softer will fill in more gaps. It comes down more to preferance though, some people will just never love a soft feeling bed, or they hate the divets in the bed.
