Welcome to the IHoP

I just realized that I have been in the negative every month lately unless I had some source of extra income come in for that month. ugh...

Hence why I work 2 jobs. I don't enjoy 50-60hr weeks for my health, although it does cut down on time I'm bored.

If I take off the time I get for lunch in a week I am doing 51 hrs a week here. Including lunch its 60. 6 days a week.

But it makes it so I enjoy my time off. Now if my body clock will quit fucking up and let me go to sleep at a good time.

Mid-50's and can retire and not making 6 digits should set off a few flags right there. My father is 73 and still HAS to work. He's put in super long hours his whole life too. That's just bs. :(

i definitely agree with you but personally, due to my dad's health and dangerous work environment, im glad he's getting out. i was trying to find some more info on how government employment has changed historically, etc... but its 5:00 am so i think ill try getting some sleep lol

I used to average 72 hours a week. It's nice only working 40 a week now, however I make truckloads less. In addition to the $$ I'm starting to miss being in charge. I worked too high up too fast and got effed over too much so I burned out.

Now I'm finding that I'm not only worth more when I can help train and lead people but also that I am much more tallented in the leadership roles than I am in the follow order roles.

I am very similar...........much better at problem solving and leadership than I am at following others.

But here I am........for now.

I know how you feel J.

It can be tough to ride things out. I made some choices that landed me here and I thought this is what I wanted/needed because I burned out working too much and too hard instead of intelegently. I also didn't realize at that time where my strengths were. Now in this new work climate I see what comes naturally to me. It's really bad when the majority of staff come to me over concerns and questions rather than take it up with leadership. What's worse is even though I can't change anything I can difuse the issue better than my leadership can even if our leadership completely resolves the concern. The lack of communication and resource management is just demoralising.

I'm trying to work through this here though and boning up on management reading, and general "self help" reading. Dale Carnigie etc. It's no so much that I need to learn the skills, but being refreshed and actively paying attention to these atributes is the single most important tactic in being successfull. Since I have no damn clue what I want to do for education warming up with some moral boosting reading is a great way to rev up the engines.

I have a fortune cookie fortune pinned to my cube here... it says

"Customer service is like taking a bath, you have to keep doing it."

Anytime you can relax and do some professional reading is a good start. Part of my job is to do that and you know it helps a great deal in many aspects of my life.
