the sensors for the Stoker/Guru are thermocouples, aren't they?

Yes :) That is why they are $35

Also explains why Polder remote thermometers are only 20 bucks

And don't work

For me, I would eat it as soon as you kill the cow if it was sanitary. For her... well, she doesn't like sushi. I'm guess shes a medium to medium-well kind.

Rib eye then. If she needs it medium it will be the only edible piece. Like Matt, I recommend a pan sear and a finish in the oven.

I like my wine tasty. All I can tell you is I had a cabernet sauvignon over the thanksgiving break and I enjoyed it so I want to get some wine.

I'll copy Matt and say get what you know. Tell us what it is, I might have other recommendations for later. Unlike Matt I would shy away from Pinot's. Under $30 generally speaking they are terrible.

I like crispy green beans with flavor. She is going to like crispy green beans with flavor :)

Then do it :) Making something you are passionate about will make them taste better.

No grill, but its obvious it is needed so I can get one. Can maybe borrow or would possibly consider buying an old smokey or something similar.

Pan sear, oven finish. :)

Only small problem I have with pan sear is

1. Not cast iron pan, only cast iron pot

2. Searing fills the house with the smell. Sadly my kitchen has no windows and the exhaust fan sucks, but i can deal with it.

I've seared before but think I could do better. which oil should I use, seasonings, etc.

As far as the wine. She honestly may not even drink it, but i just had a hankering for wine and a a bottle of wine and 2 glasses can't hurt right?

No grill, no pan, how do you plan on doing it?

Broiler is the only choice I can think of...

Ribeye FTW. Although my W likes new yorks, but then again she likes it burnt and ruined.

Women seem to like sweeter wetter wines, especially if they aren't a wine connoisseur. I recommend either a zinf or a merlot.

Using an uncovered cast iron pot :D

My other pans are non-stick

The lack of grill is a big fail on my part. Completely forgot to grab it while I was home this weekend. Had a little smokey too that I could try and concentrate a lot of heat!

I made a Turkey on Sunday before Thanksgiving and turned most of it into stock just so we'd have real gravy. Obviously the pan drippings were used, but some max potent-tay stock beefed it up.

Oh so true. If she picks she drinks a couple of glasses, instead of the normal she drinks one and I drink the bottle. Its not bad though, easy to drink.

Yep, sort of the anti-wine. No depth, no strong flavor, but isn't bad either :)

Back from teh 806

Managed to prod, grope, and generally molest both of Green Mountain Grills' models, most (if not all) of Traeger's, and all four BGE's while I was up there. Talked the proprietor's ear off too, nice fella. Didn't buy a grill but I did throw some business his way by buying a Thermopen

had some badass looking wok's there too; basically 1/8th inch plate power hammered into shape, heavy as shit too

Heavy wok is bad. About the only hot cooking pan I'd ever say that about. Most important for wok'ing is a burner, not the pan. A $14 pan is fine, and even a $50 burner, although it will have > 100k btu's.

Mind you these woks were 4', 6', even 8' in diameter, so yeah, they're going to be heavy

why one would need an 8' wok is beyond me
