Now you just need to start a brand called Turbo Bacon. ;)

LOL!

Sounds like something Ron Popiel(however you spell his name) would make.

Good point. F1 budgets would allow them to do a TON of research on optimizing it as well.

I don't think it would work for them. They need the air flowing over the car for down force. F1 is all about controlling down force. That's what gives them the control they have. If you're stalling the air, you are decreasing the down force which will help top speed, but when you go to take a turn at 150mph, you are dead meat.

You'd just need to change the "wings" then. Obviously a lot more to it, but if you can cut the wind better you'd gain a lot of speed adding downforce is easy in comparison. The efficiency gains if real would definitely pay off.

Again a guess, but I can't imagine it not being the case.

But the dimples don't cut through the air, they stall the air over it removing the drag. I'm no engineer, but I am an avid fan of F1 and all their technology and money goes into decreasing weight, and controlling downforce. This past season, McLaren came out with what they called and F-duct and it is the same principle. They used a small duct to control the air over the wing. It stalled the air on the staights to decrease drag and downforce on the rear wing. SO much of their body work is to control how the air hits the wing. They are directing it. Stalling the air over the body would negate that ability. Hell, maybe they could do it just by altering the wings, but I don't think so given as much attention they spend to controlling it now. I think in their case, it is a need.

Again though if forward propulsion could be 5% more efficient due to decreased drag they would be happy for it. Of course assuming that it doesn't effect downforce or that they are capable of counteracting the added forward efficiency.

arbitrary percentage really, 5 was just a nubmer

Btw, holy crap is it strange to not have to be searching for a car in every waking free internet minute. I love the fact I finally did something. Paperwork is being shared today, it better go well.

Damnit, I was just about to type that !

:D

Do you guys remember, there was a thing that added a lot of down force to F1, but was banned. I can't remember where I watched it, Discovery maybe. It was placed under the car by one of the teams and they won many times in a row. They didn't want to share the secret so it was banned.

But trains and planes definitely should dimples...

The double diffuser. This idea has been banned and re=instated several times in F1. Their rules are so well written, but damn their engineers are so smart they find so many ways around them.

Adrian Newey is THE king of F1 designers. While others use computers and wind tunnels, this guy draws everything out on paper what he envisions in his head, and Red Bull has been the class act with regards to down force the past couple years. Hell, if they had Alonso and Hamilton, and Mercedes power, they'd never lose a race.

When it comes to the Baja 1000, simply crossing the finish line is reason enough to bust out the champagne. Ford has announced that its 2011 F-150 Ecoboost race truck has managed to cover the entire 1,061 mile course in 38 hours and 20 minutes. According to FoMoCo, the truck put up with some of the most grueling terrain on the planet – racing through temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. More impressively, as you may recall, this particular 3.5-liter V6 engine entered the cross-country rally with the equivalent of 10 years of abuse on the clock. The very same lump went through extensive endurance testing at the Cleveland Engine Plant before being bolted into an F-150 that was used as a log skidder in Oregon.

Finally, the same engine drove around a NASCAR track at full speed while towing 11,300 pounds. Ford then unbolted the engine and plopped it into the race machine you see above – bone stock and without so much as a rebuild. With 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, the EcoBoost was more than powerful enough to pull the Baja F-150 across the line. Click past the jump for the full press release.

Sounds like a helluva nice engine

Being a huge Ford fan, I love this, but in this day and age, any manufacturer should easily be able to handle a similar feat.

no doubt. If the dimples worked as well as it's advertised it would be used in so many more aplications. Companies would definately make dimpled trucks, trains, airplance etc, especially considering all the good "going green" press it would give them.

Either their data is flat out wrong, there is something else going on that changed the mpg, or the dimples create some horrible uncontrollable problem that makes them worthless no matter the savings.

Maybe dimples only work for round objects?

Hmm, food question for you. :)

11am Dom moment. I need to pair something with it, will offer a rasberry to float in it as that's a breakfast treat but unsure what else I want to do. Only 11 people so I am willing to do something fun.

blini, creme fraiche and caviar is an option but my wife shouldn't really eat raw anything at the moment and it is sort of unfair to drop $100 on something tasty and not share

same problem with some sort of sashimi bite, at the moment I want scallop BAD :(

cheese is something we will have after the turkey and it shouldn't be had twice so close together

I am not doing anything fried...unless someone has a clever amuse-bouche that would pair perfectly

The champagne is too nice for anything too BIG but I am open to pretty much anything. Considering I only have to make the turkey, gravy, potatoes, & stuffing I should have a ton of time. If it needs to be fresh seafood, not a problem as I have to drive to Coastal for some oysters for the stuffing anyways.

More people will see this here, but if I get a lot of ideas I'll move it to homeaudio :)

Thanks Ryan! You made me re-read my post and realized the "normal" terms in it, never once thought about that while I was typing though. Here it is again.

Gonna get drunk in the morning with my whole family and we all are going to pretend it is civilized. Rich Uncle will up the ante and bring some expensive champagne and I have to serve something to eat.

pancakes, sour cream, and fish eggs are an option but I done knocked up my wife and she can't eat fish eggs now

same problem with eating a raw scallop with some vegetables and a sauce

no cheese, I don't like it in the morning before a meal, but after yeah baby.

I love deep fried shit with champagne, but it is a pain in the ass for 11 people and fuck that shit. Plus its breakfast. Tempt me.

Someone in the family will yell at me if I put garlic in our snack or anything really strong tasting. Considering I only have to make the turkey, gravy, potatoes, & stuffing I'll make something else to. I have access to nearly anything.

More people will see this here, but if I get a lot of ideas I'll move it to homeaudio :)

Dom = Brut, correct?

Yep, not overly dry or bright but complex and mellow.
