Welcome to the IHoP

Really the only reason I go to the theater is for the big screen and the audio system...and the popcorn

All three of which I can basically reproduce in my own home with enough funds and gumption, so, why bother driving at least a half hour to watch a flick, ya know

once you see blue ray and hear a well done 5.1 with mid fi speakers like my energy speaks or even better some digms or the likes, the movie theater will seam like torture.

that and you can sit/lounge on whatever seating you want. I have some great HT couches I got for a song too. One has heat and vibration and the other is a birkliner with less bells and whistles but it's so comfy it's amazing.

I just finished AvP (again  ) and after that I remembered Peng's post... Now I want a projector or a big screen. I live pretty much alone in the house, so guess my next project will be to turn a room into a small movie theatre.

Please fill in the blanks with detail if you can. I'm going to be doing some shopping soon. I need it to have 4 seats, be verry comfortable inside leather, comfort etc. I don't plan on hauling goosenecks but the more stones the better. I will not buy new. I don't mind diesel. Chevy will be a hard sell, and I know nothing about GMC so be specific as I understand the seira/siverado to be the same trucks. Dodge... I know even less about them.

If you were looking at buying a large pickup (f150 or larger) you would buy _____ , becase ____ .

I should also note I would like something that can handle a heavier load more than towing. Idealy it would also handle dirt, gravel, snow off road type situations. I don't need to go fast off road, just able to chug through and over nasty crap, fel logs etc and lousey MN snow.

Half-ton 4 door crew, 5' bed

Versatile as hell, plenty of capacity. Most of the newer models (5 years or younger) have ~1200-1700 payload ratings and 7,500-10,000 tow ratings. Ford made an asston of 'em and you can regularly find nicely equipped low mileage used models for <22k for 4x2 models. If you can find one, an FX4 packaged 4x4 model is the next best thing to a Raptor.

1200 would be the MINIMUM payload I would say. I end up hauling too much shtuff in the bed, my poor Expedition was loaded with 1500+ several times in the back with the seats down when I moved, and she definately feels it if I load the back up with tons of 4x8's 2x4's or rock etc.

It was wrong, but it took it like a champ.

I think if I go half ton I need* to find a trailor too....

* That would more likely be "should" not need. I don't haul lots of weight far currently, nor do I do that often, but I find myself more and more limited by my expy, and the wife wants her car to go away.

I saw this little fella at a local dealership that's been sitting for a good while now....

If it's all in working order it's a heck of a set up to just walk into. Real SCrew would be better but meh.. Just depends on if the engine has been upkept and if it's fully updated with the 6.0L revisions.

Unless you truly need a 1 ton, I wouldn't buy one. They ride like shit if nothing is in the bed. It iis also going to turn like crap since it is an extended cab and 8ft bed.

Random Notes:

Anything you can do in a Durango/Expedition/Tahoe/Sequioa you can do equally well in a F-150/Ram 1500/Silverado 1500/Tundra crew cab short. In addition they'll charge you 7-12,000 more for the SUV than the truck, even if they are similarly equipped (one of the reasons we went with our Silverado crew instead of the Tahoe or Suburban).

Ford does offer the F-150 SuperCrew with a fullsize 6' bed. They're kinda rare, though.

Raptor.

HD diesel models are beyond overkill for your application.

Be aware that the Super Duty and the Ram HD 4x4 models you get a multi-link coil sprung solid axle up front instead of the IFS.

A 3/4 ton crew cab short gas V8 is a nice option since you get a real 6' bed in addition to plenty of brawn. Most offer ~2.5k-3k payload and ~10-13k towing.

Raptor.

whats wierd is my neighbors f350 4 door long bed rode smoother than my dads f250 shortbed (both 4x4) and his new 2002-ish 2500 dodge cummins 4x2 rides rougher than his previous truck...

honestly Dem Beats, I won't be mad if you don't get one. It would just make me one step closer to being the first person in the H0P to own one :D

Try that along with a Turbo Charged Evora, and a sweet "beater" BMW and I would be in heaven

good point... however I have only plowed in trucks with autos..... They were all newer and we had mechanics on hand.

That plow looks like its been around as well.

I'd stop at 3/4, they are sprung heavy enough as is. Actually a 1/2 ton with upgraded springs may suit your fancy as well. Or a Raptor.
