looking for a list of materials and basic instructions. this is my first time FG'ing so i plan to practice by replacing the sound deadening that i used to seal up the large access holes in my doors w/ fiberglass panels.

I can't help you with materials but some of the things I learned :

Cover everything up real good, you don't want resin on your dash or carpet, use packing tape, it doesn't stick to fiberglass.

Take your time, practice to get the amount of hardener right, use a seringe for good dosage, mix small batches (I usually mix 100-180ml or so). I work without gloves and always keep a dirty rag to clean my hands.

In reality, a .243 with something like a 120gr Barnes TSX will take most of the common game in the country if you know how to shoot.

Of course I know that. I also just think it's fun as all heck to shoot big handguns.

I was more being wimsical about the father in law thing. Although, untill I fired his .44 mag I had never fired anything more powerfull than my 1911 in handgun form. I was shocked at how little recoil I perceived and how I could nearly put them through the same hole.

The feel of a revolver is totally different than an auto.

In order for the round to be as effective as possible it needs to expel all of its energy inside of the target. Something like a FMJ isn't going to do very well at this, it will run through both sides and keep on going, now if you knock out the shoulders it will do just fine. Also with the rounds you don't want something to nuke upon impact of the outside of the shoulder and not cause any real internal damage. In reality, a .243 with something like a 120gr Barnes TSX will take most of the common game in the country if you know how to shoot.

No doubt I agree with you there. Although if I was shooting moose I might want bigger. Or bear etc.

I am a bit confused though as doesn't velocity dictate it's in and out probability more than anything else? As in a slower round but heavier round would cause more impact trauma and not as much chance to just pop through, than a super duper blazing fast round.

Also in pragmatic distance shots a heavier round would be less affected by cross winds than a lighter one. Same as in brush, a heavier round would be less likely to tumble. Either would kill sure, but the question of accuracy is kind of where I'm going.

I hope you don't mind me picking your brain. I haven't looked too deep into the .338 cost to shoot but I'm guessing the rounds are spendy as all hell. I have thought about a .308 bolt action, or maybe a .300, but again, it's definately fun to fire the big-uns.

.338 Lapua is expensive. Reloading it I think is above 1$ per round.

Thats got to be nice. I think I got a lung infection the last time I made rings, even wearing a mask.

Last summer I used to work with hat, protection goggles, mask and thick clothing to keep the dust away. This spring I found the dust collector and an old vacuum cleaner, no more dust. I have to find a way to attach the vacuum cleaner to the orbital sander and table saw.

Had to cut 6 6.5inch rings and 2 10inch rings today. Filled the vacuum cleaner twice.
