Does anyone know where to find large sonotubes? Largest Lowes carries is 12"ID, I found a MI company that makes 14"ID but I still need larger. Something like a 16"ID and 18"ID.

google has it.

type in sonotube followed by the size you want to look for.

I would follow that up with "local". There has to be some construction place near you.

that's how I found it..... but then I decided to go with MDF. not as original, but I think it will hold up better in the long long term.

I didnt have a jacket. Just a hoodie. I'm fine in a t shirt untill its 'bout 0 or below.

I'm known to wear birkenstocks basketball shorts a t shirt and a thin hoodie in below 0. If I'm shovling or just out of the gym steam will rise off my body.

I was more worried about jacks paws getting too cold. I got him into the truck and snuggles him untill mom in law showed up.

:)

warm puppy ftw!

Dammit. My stupid Crossfire amp blew again in the cold. Go out and start the car and an immediate thump. In the rearview mirror I see smoke.

What a POS. Second straight winter this stupid thing has done this. Time for a better designed amp.

Which do you have?

BMF 1000D. Was supposed to be good back like 5 years ago. Maybe not.

Ok that is newer than what I have. I have the CFA models.

Which ones were the CFA's?

And my BMF 1000D's ran great for years.

I take that back. I've had THREE fail on me. I bought one 5 years ago from an SPL competitor, it failed (figured it had had a hard life). Bought a new used one, it failed last winter. Had it remanufactured, it failed again yesterday.

Only amp i've ever had fail.

Why would you continue to buy them, lol

Well...... no good answer for you. Haha. Apparently it just takes me three times to learn my lesson. But as I said, they used to have a good reputation from what I heard and read a good objective somewhat technical review. Basically it nearly did its rated 2 ohm power at 4 ohm, 1 ohm power at 2 ohms, etc., was efficient, had decent crossovers, etc. Well here it is: http://www.carsound.com/review_archive/amps/BMF1000D.html

Aaron it appears I shall be ordering an SAE1200 from you soon. I mean is there an amplifier even close to that performance for only $280? My survey says no.

I'm thinking about doing a whole beef rib for a large "fancy" holiday meal.

Has anyone tried this or have a good recipie?

BGE baby. The only question is do you use high heat to start/brown it or to finish.

WHen you get a whole rib like that, is the cut the "prime rib" but it just has the bones left on it?

good call on the BGE. That was my first thought, but wanted to make sure a roasting or braising wasn't better suited.

Only a Prime Rib if the meat is Prime. Otherwise it would be a Choice Rib which no one would ever say, they'd still call it a Bone in Prime, but would be wrong.

Braising would be a bad idea IMO. That cut shouldn't be cooked beyond mid-rare and doesn't need the extra fat/liquid of a braise.

Two schools of thought. Hot first and then cold cook (250ish) or low slow followed by sear. You could also sear in a pan first if you prefer or need to make a pan sauce.

If you BGE it I would put a drip tray under the meat and make sure there is water in it so the drippings don't burn. Then you can make a sauce later. Normally I roast a mirepoix in the pan or racked above the liquid at the same time to make the au jus better at the end.

PERFECT!

thanks for the tip. I never would have thought to put a pan under with mirepoix. WOuld strain after, process fine, or just leave it?

I like to blend, depending on how much you use. The other school of thought is to use a ton and get rid of most of the roughage.

The pan NEEDS water in it at all times otherwise your tasting drippings will burn. Elevating the veggies will let them roast instead of boil. You can boil the water off on the stove later and reduce the yummies. A turkey baster works as a fat sucker so you can do it in parallel.

///M5 I just started a word document labeled Cooking Tips from ///M5 so keep them coming, but I appreciate that info about cooking ribs because that was gonna be next project when it gets warmer outside. I have never cooked a slab of ribs before on a grill or anywhere period. :santa:

Keep asking I'll keep commenting. One of these days perhaps I'll go to chef school as well, but that would require a job change. I'd like to learn how to use the oven, but meh I don't eat much out of it so I am not in a hurry.

wow some crazy shit is happening around here.... all 4 cars in my family have something wrong with them (from little engine lights on the dash to my car with the deer-print in it), then my xbox 360 died last night finally (probably shouldnt be playing it right before finals anyways tho), and my gf probably has a broken ankle, grandpa has cancer all over and just had his colon burst on him and is currently in a medically induced coma, then my great great grandmother has lung cancer, went through cemo just to stop the bleeding but she doesnt have long left, and another family member who broke his back... merry xmas my ass

Around here, BGE = Baltimore Gas & Electric. So something of an initial reaction of hatred occurs when it is mentioned. :ehh:

At my house it bring forth feelings of joy and sometimes the urge to snuggle with it's dimpled green exterior.... Maybe not when it's hot though.....

That is the one advantage of the C4, the stainless doesn't really get hot. Not even when I'm eggin' at 500 deg.

can't expect PhD's to really know what they are doing mang!

Every time you guys joke about it, a little bit of motivation is lost for me to finish mine. As I think about it, and there are a number of PhD's on my mothers side, and they all are exceptionally talented and knowledgeable in their field of focus, but out side of that...... :ehh::trippy:

I joke out of jelousy. I chose a VERY wrong path in life

:sigh:

What do you mean by wrong path?

....lol I will explain when I get to a computer.... locked outside of house with puppy now... he closed door on me...

rofl, coldest day of the year. Ooo sweet, I am outside and its 3 degrees. Nice.

Find a place that sells concrete by 9 yard batches and you'll find sonotubes. :)

Of course, considering my neighbor owns the company it is a rather logical gift. Get a couple boxes every year.

I see they are using the BGE and the Rockstar Stoker on that BBQ Pitmaster show.

They even rebuilt a BGE after it was knocked over.
