That's 11,000 Gross Combined, not Gross

GVWR is the gross of all combined weight the vehicle can handle, towing, hauling, passengers, fuel load, etc. If that were the case, then it would have to be listed as a 10K+ vehicle.

According to Toyota's site the 2010 Tacoma is still only rated for 3500lbs. My experience with Japanese tow vehicles is you regularly have to cut it in half in case there is any wind, hills, or other fun.

I haul 4 tons of wood pellets every year. 3 tons on the trailer and 1 ton in the bed. Talk about fun.

With the Ford that is.

I'm liking the new midsize Tacomas and Frontiers though; half ton truck payload and towing capacity in a small, easy to park body.

Easy to park? I didn't realize you were a woman.

Werd... My mom will suggest I drive her Xterra instead of my truck to the doctor because it's easier to park... really???

ok i give up, what is a seti group...? i fail at google searches apparently..

and by half ton capacity I mean 1,000+ pound payload capacity 5,000+ pound towing capacity, which is what most half ton pickups that I grew up with were able to do

nowadays half ton pickups have 1,500 to 1 ton payload capacities and tow capacities upwards of 5 tons, which begs the question: aren't those 3/4 and 1 ton pickups?

5000lb with that little thing? lol

I towed a 1500lb trailer with one and it was super anemic.

reminds me when I was pulling a single jet ski with a 4 cylinder Nissan. I could not keep up with a F350 pulling a bass boat and it sucked.

Try driving in rush hour with a bass boat. My 1/2 ton brakes can't come anywhere close to keeping up, I can't keep up with traffic on hills, and it sounds like the damn tranny is gonna fall out at any moment. Now make my 1/2 ton a Tacoma and I will fucking die.

Super annoying fighting the returning from lake traffic on weekends otherwise. So much so that I refuse to get something that won't tow really well and part of the reason I am not sure i want to use the W's Volvo to do it.

Nice.

I wonder how my Explorer would do with a load. Never towed anything.

I meant the Toyota and Frontier are listed for up to 11,000 pounds gross combined vehicle weight (truck itself + fuel, passengers, cargo, trailer tongue weight, trailer, and trailer cargo); gross vehicle weight rating (truck itself + fuel, passengers, cargo, and trailer tongue weight) is up to 5,000 ish

Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) (lb.) (with Towing Package) 7500

That is for the 4 cylinder manual trans regular cab; the bottom of the barrel model. Not so for the V6 models:
