Then its easy. You just have to weigh that if you had X dollars in your pocket would you spend it on that computer. My guess is you'll take the cash unless there is no real good market for it.

Sean 2 here made my whole rig including game mouse and keyboard and 28" better than 1080 rig for less than 2400.

A comperable tower from Alien or any other boutique was 6k easy. No mouse moniter or keyboard.

This has to replace both my truck and my car, not an easy task.

!!!

I was thinking wrong. I thought you were getting small SUV for wife/towing/little dude and then a new sedan for yourself. As in turning in the Chev, audi and m5 for 2 vehicles.

54 lbs of computer is a fuck ton of computer. Aaron is gonna make you join his seti group now.

=)

:peepwall:

But man, the unused cycles on that thing could really get a ton of work done on some of these science projects. :)

I should joing your club. We only have 3 towers just hangin out and 2 laptops. I'm not sure how many cores are in my GPU but my quad rig but I'm sure a ton, Sean 2's dual intel and multi threaded GPU and wifeys single we could do some numbers I bet.

computer < lots of cash

how much would you get for it?

parts alone cost toms hardware $2500, im not sure if i would sell it in one piece or part it out because im not sure if it will be delivered to me reassembled.

but im trying to justify keeping it.. here are my thoughts.

lets say i build a budget pc for about 600 this winter like i planed to do, then throughout my next 2 years of college i do some modest upgrading, maybe new cpu and graphics so lets say another 400 bucks by the time im out of school. Following college i decided i want to do a new build with new hardware, assuming there will be new chips out. now lets also assume that this new computer will cost about 1200 bucks and be about the same performance as the computer i won, this would mean that i gain nothing buy selling my current computer if i will just be rebuilding it in 3-4 years.

now in the advent of an emergency i would no doubt sell it off.

and as far as money goes i really dont give a shit about it... i dont have alot, im not rich, i just dont worry about it... if i have a bill to pay ill put more hours in at work and get the cash. (im sure ill grow out of this attitude by the time i get out of college... and have to be a grown up :P )

You know what. I say keep it if that's all you would get for it parting it out. Selling whole would get you WAY more for sure, even more so since it was a price on a popular PC site.

If you plan on keeping a PC tough enough to run games for the next 6 years, then you *might* break even VS selling it whole, however.... if you wouldn't do anything with an extra 2k laying around, then you can at least say you were top of the line while you pown newbs for like 5 minuites.

well im thinking about selling off some portions of the system that aren't required like some hd's and 1 graphic card, maybe the blue ray burner aswell.

and by half ton capacity I mean 1,000+ pound payload capacity 5,000+ pound towing capacity, which is what most half ton pickups that I grew up with were able to do

nowadays half ton pickups have 1,500 to 1 ton payload capacities and tow capacities upwards of 5 tons, which begs the question: aren't those 3/4 and 1 ton pickups?

5000lb with that little thing? lol

I towed a 1500lb trailer with one and it was super anemic.

5,000lb towing capacity my ass... Probably doesn't have the brakes to stop it either.

both the new midsize Frontiers and Tacomas (2005+) are rated upwards of 1,100 max payload 6,000 max towing 600 max tongue 11,000 GCVWR

I'm liking the new midsize Tacomas and Frontiers though; half ton truck payload and towing capacity in a small, easy to park body.

Easy to park? I didn't realize you were a woman.

so what, I like automobiles that are easy to park; sue me

I don't see how that's possible. Anything over 10K in Indiana requires a chauffeur's license, so the fullsize trucks would need a CDL.
