Although if things go right I may be getting into materials testing more and more.

Jobs I would consider would be running a company that does $10-100M/yr. If I am not the one calling the shots for the whole deal, it would have to be a Sales Director position for a >$15M company with huge upside.

...sometimes I miss sales......

I have zero desire for a job such as that. Stick me in a shop and give me a slightly absurd list of stuff you want built. :)

Truly enjoy my job, like my life, don't play an instrument though but have done a lot of and still dabble in a sport where the mental and concentration game trumps all.

Skin flute?

Bwahahahaha

Good money in that too, in particular if you look at it from an understanding point of view.

Me too. Was a hard switch going into management only.

Good point, but from what I know of that style of work/life it would be an inordinate amount of money, and I wouldn't want to do it. Not that I wouldn't do something like that if I had to/became available just don't think I'd do it for to long, nor be happy with it.

"You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat."

I'd like to get more into it from a testing frame/setup/problem solving viewpoint than actual testing (which I also enjoy though so it doesn't really matter). The main person I work for is a big name in the prestress concrete industry and I might be getting into railroad tie work with him.

When i did bedding I was a sales manager. I felt so great and giddy. My demotion really crushed my enthusiasm.

After 5 years now in neither management now a money motivated office I find more and more every day that I was cut out to be a cut above and not anything less, and the current job forces me to anchor my ability. Success in my current position is frowned upon.

Also something I look for in potential employees. If you are the same as someone else and they play an instrument, you lose.

Haha! Dammit I don't play a single thing. What should I learn........ Chicks seem to dig guitars, but to me that's overplayed. Maybe if I can get a bitchin' oboe I'd be golden. My boss's teenage son plays the accordion. I didn't know anybody learned that anymore.

The classical guitar is the hardest instrument to learn. I would add a by far, but I am sure I will antagonize someone and get them to argue with my statement. Don't pick up a guitar and play folk or rock, won't help your concentration nearly as much as something that makes you do multiple things at once.

both my niece and (dyslexic) nephew play violin, seems to help tons. I took the easy way out: pills :P

My mouth doesn't like to blow.

I'm sure your wife will be delighted to know that tidbit :tehe::P

Let's see. Get paid a lot, make all the decisions for the whole company, and do whatever else the hell you want to. Sounds like fun to me. :P

Having the background to make it successful though surely helps in the desire to do it.

I'd be happy with getting paid less, and getting to play in a fabrication shop all day. :D

How about the theoretical calculations of why you are testing?

Ryan, I have to agree with you. A former boss offered me a job running the shop I used to work at. Couldn'd do it. I have to do something with my hands. As a matter of fact, a lot of my job now involves paperwork and computer work and I do as much as I can to not have to do any of it. I'd rather be knee deep fixing a sewer line that sitting behind a desk. A big check would be nice, but my source of satisfaction is to step back, look at something and go, "I did that."

Somedays it isn't worth it. The travel at the moment is a bitch. If there is something that will "encourage" me to change that is exactly what it will be.

kader sorry to hear about Exxon.

Up until a few years ago I had got every single job I truely applied for other than one that I was not qualified for in truth.

Chase something that is important to you and again, set goals. Things will work out then.

<-- has never applied for a job I haven't gotten.

Which is exactly why I should go apply for something new, only to shoot the moon. Someone encourage me.

Double dog dare you.

Find one for me to apply to :P

General Dynamics, Dell and Lockheed are looking for senior positions to fill down here in TX :lol2:

If I'm actually testing it I'm fine with doing that, but just crunching numbers, no way in hell.

Fack. My whole life I've hung out with people significantly older and more mature. Now I've eliminated older.
