what kind of reliable 200+ hp motor can be dropped in a 68-71 bmw 2002 for less than $10k?

5.3L!

x2

You can drop a 5.3L into a 240sx and the 5.3L is lighter than the stock block

Reminds me, I used to be addicted to Unreal Tournament. My handle pissed people off.

When I killed someone the screen used to say, you have been killed by your mom's dong

You made sailor jerry and diet come out my nose.

Asshole.

mm, sailor jerry is tasty stuff

It's the only spiced rum I buy at the LQ

I suggest the Flor de Cana, the 7 year is fine no need to go older :)

Good luck fitting one in a 2002, the M30 would go in a lot easier, it would stay in the family, can make more power than that chassis can handle and is flat out one of the most reliable engines the world has ever seen.

And yes the more power...I realize everyone can always have more power, perhaps plenty would have been a better term.

K guys I am trying to convert RPM to MPH and have some questions.

Given

RPM - 3800

CVT Clutch - (Don't know ratio range for this) Assumed 1

Gear Ratio of Transmission - 2.68

Front Sprocket connected to Transmission - 11 Teeth

Rear Sprocket connecte to final drive shaft - 39 Teeth

Tire Diameter - 24 in

With all this I am calculating a speed of 26.8 mph, but the problem is our mini baja this year had this setup and was reaching speeds of atleast 30+ mph. I'm assuming that the CVT eventually goes into "overdrive" but I'm not sure of the ratio. A .8:1 overdrive from the CVT would put the speed at 33.4mph which sound more reasonable

Does this sound reasonable to you guys?

I am trying to figure out what kind of tranmission I want to use for the baja and we were considering a Honda Foreman transmission with a front dif used for the rear but by my calculations the top speed would only be 23 MPH in 5th gear which really isn't enough.

I'd do that calcuation in Excel and set it up so that the numbers and units are in different columns so you can check and make sure the units cancel right and let Excel do the math. This way you will know you are right and it will be uber easy to change values to see what happens.

No clue on the CVT, there will be some slippage though I would expect

Wow. Wish that professor would have told me he wanted the freezer to reach -20*C rather than me assuming that he was talking in Farenheit, so I made it so it hit -20*F. Big fucking difference.

I'd discussed the freezer with him earlier, explained the difficulties of getting a cheapo deep freeze to reach -20*F, got it down there (lots of foam insulation), had it there for the past too weeks.

Now he finally says its -20*C rather than me saying Fahrenheit and him not paying a god damn bit of attention.

-20*F to -4*F is just a litttle bit of a change....

How about an M30 I6? Bulletproof and can give you way more than 200hp.

i am starting to plan out my next vehicle, i've had the accord for 8 years and even though it runs perfect i am itching for some change. looking at maybe 15k initial budget, which means 5k for the car 10k for the motor and another 5k for unexpected repairs (lol i know that's 20).

i know this is tons of work but i like this:

That car is beautiful.

I would pimp the shit out of that. Might put a small chop in the top though. :coolugh:
