My dad called me at work yesterday and said that my little brother (16) has been getting into trouble and he was hoping some big brother influence may help, since he doesn't seem to respond to his parents very well. I sent him a 4+ page letter in an email basically telling him my experiences growing up and how I had two best friends in middle and high schools (separate instances) that started getting into trouble and doing drugs, and the choices I made to basically give up my best friends because I didn't want to be a part of that. Then I gave him some of the fun alternatives I did as a kid, like cruising car lots after getting shakes from Sonic during happy hour, chasing girls, etc. And I told him how much easier it is in life if you don't mess it up early and set goals and really strive.

My gf read it and thought he wouldn't read the letter because it's too long and sounds like it's coming from a parent, even though I wrote it specifically trying to not sound like a parent. Anyways, he sent a reply email saying he read it multiple times and that some of my stories are remarkably similar to his, and that he's not going to try and change his ways, he IS going to change.

That makes me feel really good. It would be amazing if I really had that type of impact on his life. I couldn't turn my two previous best friends around, but maybe I can help my brother.

that is a good story man. always feels good to help someone when u can

if JBL can get off their perennial late ass we might have another contender as well

They made it work for Biggs, so I don't know why they can't for the masses.

Reminds me though, I have had scallops on a Korean bbq as well. Great in any of the Yakiniku or Korean sauces.

i grill mine with a light teriaki wrapped in bacon, if I have it, lemon grass.

rosemary sometimes too. great smell and flavor.

God i hate school

this week i have...

a test over about 70 drugs (you have to know the brand/generic names and most common dosage of each) luckily we get another change at this test in a few weeks, but it's during finals when i definitely won't have more time to study

A lab quiz over common pharmaceutical calculations (easy but busy work, especially to prepare for)

a big ole homework in biopharmaceutics

A small'ish paper on my health project (not the final huge paper)

A final exam on thursday, which we have a different class directly before and two classes directly after (i mention this because apparently the instructors are pissed that we're missing classes, not caring that we have fucking finals right after or right before their class)

on top of that i have to work on a 20'ish page research paper,

I have to work at school for like 6hrs on wednesday extra to get "service learning" hours, which is really nothing more than community service and i didn't commit any crimes

the worst part? this is by far the lightest week i've had in quite some time

The Maryland General Assembly yesterday gave final approval to a measure that will expand the use of speed cameras to every part of the state, allowing cameras on high-volume freeways for the first time. Lawmakers in Annapolis, at the urging of Governor Martin O'Malley (D), saw the measure as an essential means of reining in the state's run-away budget deficit. Traffic camera vendors also helped promote the effort with lavish gifts, parties and campaign donations.

The new legislation specifically authorizes the use of speed cameras anywhere in the state up to one-half a mile away from a school zone. School zone cameras can operate as late as 8pm and ticket motorists regardless of whether school is in session. It also creates a statewide freeway camera program designed to be used in so-called "work zones" where the speed limit is lowered, regardless of whether workers are actually present. On a freeway that ordinarily has a 55 MPH speed limit, for example, citations would be issued to anyone driving 57 MPH in the lowered speed zone. For-profit private companies are authorized to take charge of all aspects of the program.

In light of the green dust left swirling when Fast & Furious came roaring out of the gate with a record $72.5 million last weekend, Universal has confirmed to E! News that a sequel (or, technically, a fifthquel) is in the works

Well it's good that at least he acknowledged it. However this is only half of the battle. He still has to do the work. I feel good now, but I can't really say it's better until time tells.

anarchy!

If you don't speed you won't have a problem. Not to mention it's in school and work zones, which are the two places you'd want to not speed anyways.

Your paper MAY work.... I have to wait and see what rachel sends me... but in the syllabus it says the paper is to be a MAX of 10 pages, therefore, I dont believe that it should be less than 6. I am working on mine right now and have about a page and a half. But im not going to write 4 pages and then each of yall only right 1, that doesnt seem fair.

Bitch I did my part...*sigh*...women, they always want more length...

how on earth do you get that?

57 vs 55, what is their reasoning for giving a ticket for that?

i thought cops were supposed to protect and serve. who the fuck is getting hurt with a 2mph over? nobody, but the govt sees a way to make $$$$$, pigs don't protect shit anymore, they just push us further into the totalitarian govt that this will soon become, all because people are AFRAID. and yes i realize just how ironic this rant is with my avatar.

further more, 2mph is just over 3% over the speed limit. How accurate do you really think their radars and cars speedometers are? And keep in mind all those rating they give for radars are under the BEST of conditions. I'm not sure what kind of methods they'll be using for ticketing but +3% is stupid. As a pharmacist i can fuck up your treatment by 10% and you can't sue my ass, why on earth is speeding more tightly controlled?

Tomorrow House Judiciary Committee will meet and take citizen testimony on the nomination of Wayne Anthony Ross to be our next Attorney General.

Leah Burton is on with CC, sharing her testimony regarding Wayne Anthony Ross. She is a former citizen lobbyist who worked on behalf of families and children concerning child support, child custody, domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault.

She discusses a meeting of the group DADS, being run by Wayne Anthony Ross, and what she heard.

Numerous comments were made that were appalling, not the least of which were remarks by Mr. Ross which included the following;

Unreal. Keep in mind, O'Malley started this term with a good sized surplus from the prior Gov. (who amazingly enough was a NOT democrat in a traditionally blind demo state). In the short 3 years he has been in power, he ran up a massive deficit, all the while passing the largest single tax increase by any state in the history of the US. Now the sad state of affairs is that he will probably get voted back in, keeping in mind that this smallish state had $1billion in earmarks requested by the Gov. in addition to the stimulus. What is happening here in MD, is am microcosm of what is going to happen nation wide.

As a pharmacist i can fuck up your treatment by 10% and you can't sue my ass, why on earth is speeding more tightly controlled?

Well my argument is based on the assumption that radar detectors and things are accurate. But my way of thinking also recognizes the speed limit as the law. If they wanted it to be ok for you to drive 2 mph over the speed limit, wouldn't they make the limit 57? If you think about it, speeding is about the only law we're allowed to break with some margin. Try telling the cop that it's ok that your blood alcohol level is .0824 because it's only 3% over the legal limit, that one small grain of crack is ok because it's barely more than the legal limit of 0, or that it's ok that you shot that guy because you barely grazed his skin and he'll heal without even a scar. Granted I was getting a little more out of proportion as I went along, but the idea is there. The rules of society really aren't that hard to live within and still be happy and productive.

I won't argue against your thoughts on government, but if you also take a step back and realize how unruly people have really gotten, maybe you'll see why things have gotten to where they are. Even if we increased speed limits to 100 mph you can still bet that people will go 102.

Oh and "how on earth I got that" was from one, if you have a kid walking to/from school you'd want people to go slow and be cautious as well, and two, highway workers are two feet from the road in a lot of cases. It doesn't take much of a flip of the wheel at 70 mph to swerve into them, not to mention the uneven surfaces and sometimes narrow lanes that construction zones create and that people constantly want to gawk at what's happening and not pay attention to the road.
