Easiest way I found to move a slate table is to buy two cases of beer and call up a few friends. :)

I tried... they all have some family member that needs a kidney or somethign that their wife is dragging them to. They all really wish they could help, but you know how it goes.

I hate that behaviour. Especially considering I've helped them before and now they don't want to return the favor.

I was actually just joking adrian.... But yes, I do at times know some people who are like that. I am also the type who never... ever calls people. EVAR. But when I have a project I do, and ask for help, there in lies the rub though. I am always the first person to jump in and help when someone calls me, so I guess I never feel bad about asking.

Bullshit.

That reminds me of a story the school's paper ran a few days ago, where they confused ethanol with biodiesel...we have how many chemical engineers on campus, and you can't get that right?

I tend to agree with most of that article. I think raising crops of any kind for any kind of fuel is the wrong idea. Most of the world is already starting to starve for water, and the use of extra crops will just lead to more irrigation and faster depletion of the water sources. and I don't think wind is the answer either, as that depends on a variable input. I've always liked nuclear and solar power, although I knew solar was fairly inefficient. But if everybody would cover their roofs with solar panels I think that's enough to power the house. It's just normally cost prohibitive. Hydro is iffy. There are only so many places that we can put a dam. But doesn't the Hoover dam power all of Las Vegas plus some? That's quite a drain and that dam does a good job at that.

From what I've heard, solar is still ridiculously expensive. I was talking to some people whose neighbor looked into covering his roof.... $80,000 supposedly

sounds... in the realm. I was looking at that or wind. To buy a wind set up it was 50K for one tower.

I think we need to concentrait on making our buildings much more insulated, and efficient, not find a new way to make more juice.

You are exactly right. It might cost more initially but in the long run it would save so much. My schools carpentry program built a house with heated floors, high efficency everything, and insulated well. We went in there in the middle of summer and the air had not been on in weeks and the temp was barely above 70.

It was a nice looking house too.

Someone at work gave me a phoenix gold bass cube to fix. They said it won't power up. I opened it up and two transistors in the power supply are fried. I can't read the model number since they are burned off. Any suggestions? I can't find a parts list or schematic anywhere UHG!

How large of a system were you looking at?

50K sounds like you were looking at 10kW...fully installed...with a 100' tower :) Energy efficiency sort of goes hand-in-hand with any kind of RE.

I have a feeling a big factor when I start looking at houses & land is going to be microhydro potential :) If you're going to go off-grid with one source of energy, hydro is so cheap compared to the others it's nuts.

That's just it though Jim, it should go hand in hand, but it's not addressed when I see people put it to large scale. It was an uber system, it can be done for less. But that's the trend.

Off the grid would be great, but it's not in store for a while for me.

shit, i think the speakers on my tv are blown (note, crappy tiny tv, not worth fixing, definitely not worth an external setup).

i need to get all my sound deadening stuff ordered and delivered by thanksgiving. Should still be warm enough to not make me dread it. Would be nice to get some of it done while it's still hot though.

so far i think i'll go with 2 gallons of spectrum firewall(unfortunately very out of stock right now), 2 rolls of raammat, and a few yards of ensolite, don't remember how much i still have though. I know i have about a roll and a half of raammat left.

Head over to phoenixphorum.com. There are a few people that can find parts, or maybe even make them. A guy hand made me a new remote for my bass cube. :)

Double the walls ? Oh SNAP. That thing is going to weigh a ton. I know I barely moved the 6cube sealed box for my xxx. 1inch mdf and braced.

heck yeah. It's an SQ box baby!

It's 3/4 inch birch with 2 small braces inside.

I want it to be SOLID, and have as little resonance as possible. I though about adding in something to mass load it with but I think 2.5 sheets of 4x8 foot ply should be enough =)
