Not sure how much deadening I put on the front doors. Got 2-4 layers depending on the place on the outer door skin, and one or two layers on the inside of the outer skin, and patches on the outer skin. You can definitely tell that the doors are heavier now and quieter. My hands are kinda tore up a bit and arms are black.

btw, most fun car i drove today was by FAR a mini cooper s turbocharged

drover the supercharged version about 2 years ago and loved it, the turbo is even better. even with the auto tranny that car surprised the hell out of me

i love our cooper s. we are talking about adding another one to the family and letting the boy have the current one. it's definitely a big, fun, fast and quick go cart. and with the 6 spd, it's just too much fun.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

I've always thought those would be fun little cars, but I'm not sure how practical it would be for me. I'm 6'3" so not only would I question how well I'd fit, but half the reason I got my SUV was so that I wouldn't feel like i'm lifting myself off of the ground every time I get out, or vice versa for getting in. That's a long way for me to crouch down to get into every day. With my Explorer I basically slide right in without having to drop my hips. I love it.

i'm 6'2" and 228pds. i fit fine. the doors are huge, the seats go waaay back and it doesn't give off the feeling of being as low to the ground as it actually is. my son is 5'8", and sitting behind my wife, he has plenty of room.

in short, it's not a family car, but can do a short bit of duty and it's not as hard to get in and out of as one might think.

One of my buddies dropped by today and we went for a little drive in his Escalade EXT. Talk about a piece of shit. I understand you get luxury with the ability to haul some cargo ... but you may as well get a Cayenne S, X5 4.8i, or ML550. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed some aspects ... the seats are comfortable, it is very roomy, don't mind the console and HVAC/nav layout, but it felt like trying to move a tank around, the gauges are brutal, and the whole woodgrain is a little tacky because it looks so fake. You throw 24's on that thing with the stock brakes and look out.

24s?? you not grown up with just 24s. 24s are for cars. if you aint on 26s, no need for you to show up.

and no, you still don't upgrade the brakes, lol.

tom, we pulled over a arizona driver tonight. he was just short of 21, but his license gave an expiration date of 2052. 2052? just how long are you guys issued a driver's license?

my arm is fucking aching and i can't figure out why. I don't think i did anything to it, haven't worked it too hard. It's the bad arm, so it's starting to worry me at this point.

there's a place on the forearm, very distal that's beyond tender, but no bruising. It carries up into the wrist but not in to the hand. i really really hope it's just an internal bruise and not something fucking up. Last thing i need is for my body to decide to reject something now.

god damn it, i just realized new car = new sound deadening.

not exactly keen on the idea of ripping apart a brand new car, even less keen on the idea of installing an audio system without deadening though.

Explorers are super-cheap right now. Work pays for my fuel and then some, so I'm not worried about fuel economy. 4WD would be handy around here in the winter months, but I am not a fan of it. I prefer a RWD car in the winter as most of my experience in winter comes from there.

Man that sounds backwards to me, ha. RWD is the worst for the winter IMO. 4WD is so nice for the winter, especially when there is packed snow on the ground. You don't have to worry about the rear end sliding around you on corners on a RWD or the front tires just skidding straight instead of turning on a FWD. But those usually only happened if you gave it too much gas during the turn. All my previous cars were FWD and I did all right, but my Explorer is 4WD and you can just flip it on and not have to worry about a thing. I plowed through 10-12" of fresh snow on the lawn at my grandparent's farm and it was so fun and never even hinted at getting stuck. No way I could have even tried that in my old car.

$80 for 5 years?? damn!! ours expires every 3 to 5, depending upon driving record. safer drivers go longer between expirations. but it's only $15.

i'd love to go 40+years and not worry about renewing.

Every car I've driven in the winter has been RWD except for two. MY old Taurus of course. It did well, but I don't like the pull especially in slush. The vehicle just seemed to track wherever there was a rut. Same with packed snow actually. As for 4WD, well, I had an old S10 blazer years ago and when in 4WD, well, let's just say it was far scarier than 2WD. It was as if the front wanted to go one way while the rear went another. For me, in the winter, the best vehicles have been heavy RWD cars. Between a Cadillac, Cutlass, and T-Bird with 500lbs of stereo equipment in the trunk, I've had the best winters in these vehicles.
