My friends mom wants him to get it done at wal mart

I almost pooped myself

Why go there when you can do it yourself for the same price and use better oil/filter

Actually, Synthetic oils have been proven to increase power, decrease wear, and also recude engine temps. Their value is unbelievable IMO.

Synthetic blends on the other hand have been proven no more useful than traditional oils. In other words, if you are using a blend, you're wasting your money.

I have an UNDERCAR DIGEST magazine to prove all this as well. They tested 15 different synthics, 15 different blends, and 15 different conventionals for a one year period in 8 different vehicles. The synthetic came through the clear winner in every test. The blends were equal with conventional oils.

Also, if synthetic is getting past the ring lands, you can bet your a$$ conventional oil is as well. It may not be a noticeable amount though. Take my Cobra for example, the ring land is almost in contact wil the wristpin hole. THe DOHC motors are notorious oil burners. Not enough for you to see it in the pipes, yet it will go through about an eigth of a quart about every 3000 miles.

I myself use Mobil 1 synthetic, but only because I can get it at any parts store. I used to stock up on Royal Purple, but I ran out one day and just haven't ordered any since.

when i was a mechanic it was for a lrger shop. we had meetings with vendors now and again. a few of the meetings were backoffice type things... like: this is what our chit does, so apply it accordingly.

After that, my own experience, reading, and usage Synthetic blends are the way to go. It's what I use.

If you wanna pony up the cash, go full synthetic. But IMO, unless its a car you plan on keeping long time or sports car or what have you, not worth the cost.
