Might need to find a 10" or 12" driver that works well in a small, sealed enclosure with ~1000-1500 watts for this summer.

steve, the obvious choice is the mag, but it won't have that kind of power handling. Though I liked my 12" Q sealed but it wasn't a small enclosure, i hear the SSD with copper coil is supposed to sound quite good.

dumbest article ever to try to respond to. it's a pucking research paper and they want me to relate it to my every day life.

in my every day life...i wouldn't give a fudge about this guy's research?

I did for an essay in British Lit. Basically spent 6 pages telling how chitty Romeo & Juliet was and that Shakespeare was a hack. Got a B in the class though fing05.gif

btw my mag reference didn't seem to have the sarcasm it was supposed to have.

ie recommending a product that basically doesn't exist.

What did you have in mind? I'm willing to shell out a little extra cash for performance.

I have a 10" RL-i sitting here. Can't remember if it is S4 or D4, though. Guess I will have to dig it out and check. Either way, I'm pretty sure it is going to have to be sold as I don't have a use for it and have had it for over a year ... still BNIB.

Textbooks are ridiculous.

$130 new.

$95 used.

$11.89 buyback. *IF* they buy it back. They change one thing and send out a new edition. If your prof upgrades to the newest edition as soon as it comes out, they are getting perks from the publisher.

It's not like the authors make a ton of money from the sales.

I've got a 12" Revo from Audiopulse that I'm wanting to move right now. 28mm Xmax, 1500 W Rms, 1 - 2.5 cubes. I wouldn't say it's a small box driver, though...average box, really. It is very good but not cheap either.

yep that's how it is here, i've never sold a single textbook back, just out of principle.

Where does that money go to? I've always thought it's a little suspicious that they let a prof write the textbook for the class they're teaching...he's got a vested interest in selling the textbook, so of course he recommends his and updates it to a newer version as frequently as possible.

Although it's a different story when written by a different prof.

actually, i think every time i've had a class here where the professor wrote the book, the book was paperback and much cheaper than most others at the bookstore.

The publisher sets the price and makes a killing. They are the reason why your textbooks cost so much. In all actuality, it is a business ... unfortunately.

Yeah, I try not to begrudge them for it either because it's free enterprise/capitalism/whatever cool word you want to use. And that's fine. I mean, shit....I never have to take classes twice, so what do I care if the text books change? But it doesn't seem kosher all the time either.

I'll have to check in with you later this summer to see if it is still around.

I am going to be spending quite a bit of time driving in the next few years so this summer brings a new or new-to-me vehicle. Going to look around tonight to see if I can find any decent deals. Been looking on Autotrader.ca a lot lately too. From what I can see right now, the '07 one year lease return Impala's or Grand Prix's for ~ $18,000 might be just the thing to hold me over for a few years and treat me well on the highway.

I am all for guidelines/minimums regarding a 'new edition' ... I believe that certain requirements should be met before a new edition is put out. Changing one picture doesn't count. Updating more than 50% of the chapters with new research does. So on and so forth. Since I value life and living, I can't open my mouth on the subject.

i almost always buy old editions, usually they don't even change pics, they'll move a chapter around and fix spelling mistakes.
