All my music is MP3 on my computer but that will change this Christmas.

Do you rip FLAC straight off a CD? Never understood how it is obtained

I like a program called Exact Audio Copy...it rips it to .WAV first and then converts it to FLAC. There are others, though.

People torrent FLAC albums just as they do MP3 ones, as well...

WavPack works well too, encodes a lot faster than FLAC too...

WavPack is very good except that it is has very little hardware support and is less traded on the interwebz than, say, FLAC or APE.

I'm sure she's had tons. Doesn't matter though. I was telling the whole ordeal to a friend on the phone and as i'm nearing the end she interrupts me and says "you know i'm kind of shocked..." i say yea me too

then she says... "no..the whole time you've told me this story you've been laughing your ass off"

i hadn't realized but i have found this whole thing funny and ironic. Kind of beautiful in its own little way.

All I'd like to find...is a forum with a decent amount of home audio traffic...with a pretty good level of discussion...with a user interface that's not from 1992...that's not filled with old bags that haven't learned anything since the 8-track.

Am I asking too much?

:)

I can't find one that I can really get into, although HomeTheaterShack can be pretty good somedays. I just have to spread my time out amongst DIYaudio, HTS, AVS, AudioCircles, and AudioKarma.

well the other night went swimmingly. She tried to lie about it of course. But what really amazed me was how good she was at lying. No hesitation at all. But i did what i said i was going to do before i confronted her.... of course IDB seemed proper too. So while she's laying there sore in every orifice, apologizing for wanting to cry, i told her what i knew.

After the lying she really just couldn't say anything, completely dumbfounded.

Well I guess that's the best way to say "Thanks a lot, kindly go F yourself."

As long as you're not too bothered by it. Your posts read like you're really pissed but you don't want to care.

oh i am/was pissed, can't deny that. But i had no emotional attachment to the girl. I do find the situation as a whole funny as hell though.

AK goes in waves of pissing me off greatly and just being OK. While I don't think there's anything wrong with vintage receivers, tape decks, or speakers found at yard sales, it just seems that's all that's being talked about. Not just that, but there's an active resistance against anything new sometimes, it seems. And the car audio discussion was hilarious :D If it wasn't for the couple of really cool people I've met in NC on that board, I'd probably just delete my account.

AudioCircle in my experience is a big manufacturer's circle jerk.

I have no experience with HTS or AVS, but as I'm not interested in home theater now I don't know how useful they'd be...

The strength of HTS and AVS is far and away their DIY sections. A lot of the other forums on each site are kind of take it or leave it.

AudioAsylum has by far the best content and diversity of discussion that I've found...anywhere...they haven't jumped on the php, IPboard or VBulletin bandwagon yet though :(

Yeah but then again lossless audio on a portable device is really just a waste of batteries if you ask me...

Hmmm, project cheapo BIB is on.

Now to decide a driver.

I knew there was one I was forgetting. You post relatively frequently there, yes? I haven't stopped by in a few weeks.

It's actually more of a convenience factor for me. It is irritating as hell to have a large library of quality FLAC material and have to re-encode this every time I want to put one of those albums on my media player.

Pssst Adrian: A boat might work, but keep in mind I'm ~2,500mi away from any kind of boat dock to go over there. :)

Hmmm, project cheapo BIB is on.

Now to decide a driver.

If you want very cheap, I'd say Aura NS3 or Hi-Vi B3S. Both smaller drivers but under $20 each with pretty good response over a wide bandwidth, and the TQWT BIB gives the stronger bottom end that is the weakness of both drivers. Works pretty well on music, just don't expect floor shaking impact.

Eh, I'm looking at those, but actually I want something bigger.

I might build two pairs, see what I can get out of 1-3" drivers and then out of 6-8" drivers.

I need an excuse to build something :)

I lurk a lot more there than I post...been a member for like two years and have under 200 posts.

That's going to change.
