Need the load connected to the amp to properly set gains with a scope.

ok, so what exactly am I going to do with that information? If the load is very low, does that mean I cannot safely use my amp to it's full potential until I get a higher output headunit? Or is there a way to compensate with the amp? That's all I'm confused about is why exactly I need to measure the RCA voltage... I know something's wrong though, so maybe this will let me know what needs to be done?

sorry, I'm still learning

Umm, all I meant was you need to hook up whatever you are powering with the amp, then measure with the scope to set the gains with it.

So I'm coming home from work, stopped at an intersection waiting to turn left. The light for traffic travelling in the perpendicular directions turns red and *CRASH*, some guy gets rear-ended stopping at the intersection. Now normally this would be pretty funny, but this was the ultimate in funny rear-enders. The offending vehicle that rear-ended this guy's truck was an RCMP (police) truck ! And, not only that, but it was a female cop not wearing her seat belt ! So I pull over laughing my ass off and wait for another cop to come so I can give my statement (Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime, AFAIK). So I'm telling this cop what happened with a big smile on my face trying not to laugh, but I eventually let out a small snicker when I was telling him how she wasn't wearing a seat belt. He wasn't too impressed with that immediately pointing out that she had a concussion from hitting the glass, to which I replied, "Well, she should've been wearing her seat belt and paying attention to the road." He then let me go and I left, laughing my ass off all the way home. It was great ... :)

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take any pictures because I didn't have my camera on me. Sorry guys.

I read somewhere that the gain should be no mor than 1/2 turned up and at a maximum like 3/4. Mine is almost all the way turned up before I see signs of clipping so I was wondering if this is ok, or if I'm causing harm to the amplifier. I'm pretty sure my factory headunit has a low output voltage compared to aftermarket headunits, which is why I'm having to turn the gain up so much.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is as long as the amplifier isn't clipping it should be 100% right? I'm just worried that because the gains are so high that the amp will overwork itself because I've heard the input sensitivity referred to as a 'volume knob'

It sure sounds like 1000 watts now though. I even saw my roof flex on the drivers side right above the woofer, so that was cool.

I guess they're people too, but damn not wearing a seatbelt... should've done a citizens arrest :P

she wants a 12, and mach5 shipping sucks for me. it'll probably be one of the new AA subs and some amp that'll do 500-800W

tune a little high and she should be happy

And you complain about this girl being a bitch all the time, so you are going to help her why? ? ?

Ok, got a question. What is the point of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray DVD? A good upconvert DVD player will upconvert to 1080p standards and isn't that what HD DVD and Blu-Ray play at? So if you have an upconvert DVD player that'll do 1080p wouldn't having HD or Blu-Ray be a pointless gesture?

i don't understand them 100% but what i THINK is that the upconverting is a fake 1080p, kinda like taking a 128kbps mp3 and upconverting it to 320kbps. It's not nearly as good as a recording that was originally ripped in 320, but possibly better than 128. the HD-DVD and blu-ray are actually a higher quality recording.

HD-DVD is 1080i. Blu-ray is 1080P but not all. Most of the 1080P Blu-ray discs are for the PS3 and as I've been trained it's almost impossible to tell a difference between i and P unless it is a video game which of course contains computer aided graphics. Also for note, if you sit more than 7 feet away from your TV, you cannot tell the difference betweem 720 and 1080i/P.

Got one of the BIB's done, waiting for the glue to dry on the front baffle then going to stick the 12" in 'er and try it out.

This thing is fricking huge, and now I don't know wtf I'm going to do with it. I'm begining to question my sanity :)

Uploading pics now and making a thread so be onthe lookout for the pics. :)

Also for note, if you sit more than 7 feet away from your TV, you cannot tell the difference betweem 720 and 1080i/P.

HD-DVD and Blu-ray are both 1080p.

Video games are obviously all computer generated graphics, but that doesn't have anything to do with it. Movies are recorded at 24 frames per second (fps), which is less than the 60 fps that 1080p is capable of and the 30 fps that 1080i is capable of. Frame rates in video games can vary greatly and are often in excess of 30 fps, which is why you can see a difference.

The size of the screen is a huge factor as well as viewing distance when determining the number of pixels required for good picture quality. Let's say you have a 72" screen (62.75" x 35.3") ... at 720p (1280x720) resolution, this gives an effective resolution of 20.4 PPI (Pixels Per Inch), meaning each pixel is 0.05" x 0.05" ... at 1080p (1920x1080) resolution, this gives an effective resolution of 30.6 PPI, meaning each pixel is 0.033" x 0.033" ... Now this may sound miniscule, but the human eye (based on human w/ 20/20 vision viewing black vs. white) can resolve 0.003" pixels per 10" of distance, meaning that you can still resolve pixels up to 9 feet on the 1080p model and up to 14 feet on the 720p model. Now, with a 32" model (27.9" x 15.7"), this is reduced down to 4 feet (1080p) and 6 feet (720p) respectively ...

anyone know? I really want to start enjoying music again without thinking in the back of my mind that I'm about to blow the speaker or fry the amplifier...

damn people not wanting the 8053s just pisses me off. I'm not going to be able to get a decent price for mine and i'm definitely not giving it away. dad will never be able to appreciate it in his car but it looks like that is where it's going.

he's upgrading from a jensen with HU power to my 8053 and probably my butler. lol.

PM me some details, I might have a home for it.... Thinking in my new camaro...

Pics would be great as well.

As long as your voltage dosen't drop low you won't fry the amp. As for the speakers, as long as you keep your head out of your arse you will be able to tell when they are screaming for mercy, if they do that, turn it down. :)

So having the voltage drop can damage the amplifier? I figured it would limit the power but I had no idea that could do damage...

can anyone else not see posts? Mine are all arranged at the bottom of the page and it sucks really bad.

If the voltage drops low it will lower the power output, but if it drops to low theres a good chance of your amp becoming a paper weight.

Its 2am now, been working on the BIB's since roughly 1am, got the second one all glued up and its drying in clamps now, have to cut the front baffle and glue it on and it'll be ready to go (minus some polyfill that I currently don't have).

ok, when the truck is on it never drops below probably 13.5-13.8 volts... That's a rough estimate, but the needle barely moves when the bass is going full tilt, so I think I'm fine... I hope

They get loud off of an old junky Rotel receiver with the volume on 3/10 and I don't think it puts out that much power anyways. I only had the FM radio to listen to stuff on though, didn't have a CD player, couldn't find my MP3 player so I was stuck with the rado. :( Still has some serious low end though :)

coming back from a car show way out on the edge of town today, I found this freaky motel straight out of the 60's

in case you can't see the little white sign, it says Buckhorn Wildlife Museum
