The chitbox is pretty fun to drive offroad. It has enough power to slide sideways in 4 wheel high on loose stuff :)

I am not too pleased with my econo'chit' box lately. 15 mpg from a 4banger just b/c I am missing a radiator fan (will be in on monday) just pisses me off.

does anyone know of any major reliablity issues with the 96-97 lt1 camaro/ t/a's? Might as well ask since that is what I am looking at buying.

The wisdom of GM putting the optispark right under the water pump is the only fault that I can think of. They get good milage too if you do intake/exhaust and have the 6speed. I know of people that have gotten around 25-28mpg with them

GM was nice enough to put the Alt right on top though, making for an easy swap, and we all know how many large body gm alts there are to be had. I know of the dash cracking and am not too worried about that.

at 100K they need a new optispark and waterpump because when the water pump goes it barfs coolant on the opti and kills it lol

no big reliability problems, but they can be a huge pain in the ass to work on (see above)

it's also a huge pain to drop the gas tanks in them

I am not worried about difficulty maintaining. Was just making sure that if I bought one it wasn't going to die on me in a week. I have always wanted an ls1, but with school and all I think an lt1 would suit my finances better. Not to mention cheaper insurance etc... Head/Cam, headers, true dual exhaust, stainless brake lines, ebc pads etc... Nitto 555 fronts and 555r's for the rear are already on the list. As well as a new water pump and optispark, and a nice juicy h/o alt as well.

Naaa, no small block is going to die in a week, it takes a LOT to kill one.

I know, I was leaning towards a weak rear end, as found in the ls1 cars... things like that. I know the t56 is bullet proof, but was looking for little things I should plan on fixing as soon as I get the car.

The T56 is not bullet proof, but from what I understand it is a very good transmission.

The rear end will be fine as long as you don't think about doing 5k clutch dumps with sticky tires. If you do that you can kiss that 10bolt good bye.

I know of people that were running 500hp on a stock rear end with no problems, as long as you don't do anything stupid you'll be just fine. *Needless to say the person with 500hp upgraded to a 9" though when the money came around*

if it has any real amount of miles on it, do opti, water pump, plugs, wires, and headers all at the same time, makes the job much easier

Just bagged a 'possum. Used the good ole .22 pistol from the back step, first shot through the chest, he isn't going anywhere...

I wish I lived somewhere where I could do that. When I lived in the country I used to take out squirrels and birds for fun with my .22 (note that shooting a flying bird with a .22 is a little harder than it sounds)

I'm seriously debating buying a new MacBook before school starts, so I can try out this whole 'mac' relibility and still have good ole fashion windows on it.
