had one hell of a time at dave's, but the install is very very very close to finished. Also learned that optical cables have two different ends that are color coded for a reason.

Why would the end matter in optical cables? Doesn't light work the same no matter which end of the cable it starts at?

*goes to google my question*

It will pass both ways but in certain optical cables the ends are different by just a slight bit so the connection willnot take and henceforth not transmit light.

Also fiber optics SUCK to make new ends for.

Don't think it was a cable issue , more of a "damn I'm freaking tired, and overlooked the different conectors " issue. That and Dave was wanting some tunes bad. :)

I'd recommend Nikon simply because of the lenses. What model you get is going to be based on your budget, but Nikon F-mount lenses can be found anywhere, and usually pretty cheaply.

Canon makes some nice higher-end stuff, but their Digital Rebel isn't worth it. The fact that it won't shoot RAW format pretty much kills it there. And Canon lenses are more expensive than their Nikon counterparts, usually.

Remember:

1) zoom lenses generally suck, and should only be used if you have absolutely no other choice

2) with digital, your actual focal length is longer than you think...if you slap a lens that was 50mm on 35mm film, it's going to be around 75mm for digital. The sensor's smaller than a frame of 35mm film.
