nick, the thing is..it runs fine after it's started...no hesitation or anything that would lead me to suspect timing..i dunno, i almost believe the computer is somehow off on startup pressure and isn't sending enuff fuel at startup..pulse voltage could have something to do with that, correct?

ryan..it's not distributorless like the lt1 and up..electronic yes, but with a distributor. maybe a coil problem..hmmm

supa, i believe the crossfire was similiar to chrysler and gm's earlier attempt at crossing the intake runners (can't remember name) with dual carbs. the right side carb fed the left bank and vice versa, i believe it was an attempt to lengthen the intake runners making for a higher charge velocity. i also believe it worked better with the carbs then it ever did with the vette...it only lasted from either late 81 or early 82 to 86..after that tpi was born.

hey guys, u realize we are breakin the rules by actually haveing a constructive conversation?..lol...just making sure..

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

And the LT1s do indeed have a distributor. Unconventional, but a distributor none-the-less.

The distributor is located behind the water pump.

no apology necessary. Just wanted to make sure you were more informed.

TPI, should have the standard rear mounted distributor.

I think you're on the right track though. Fuel and fuel pressure would be my first suspects.

TPI and LT1s are also common to faulty intake gaskets. If you ever purchase one with a slow leak, fear not. Common problem.

Late model F-bodies are a pain too. I'm not much a fan of the Vette's engine bay either, but the topside is much more accessible and accomodating due to the reverse hood.

LT1's have the optispark. It's a female dog too. I had to change mine out in the Z. Took about 8 hours because I took too many smoke breaks (don't smoke anymoer though)
