Tom + Jim = MIA..

I can't speak for Tom, but as for me...Windows crashed on me last Monday, so I haven't been online. This has enabled several things to happen:

1. Spent a weekend back home with some "quality time" with a friend :slayer:

2. Got a lot of projects done that I've been waiting to do, and all came out well...

3. Avoided a collective jizm of absolute stupidity that seemed to be CA.com the few times I logged in as a guest during the week.

I would think Tom's reasons are much the same...

Union and company finally reached a tentative agreement last night. Still won't be going back to work until at least next Monday. Members still have to vote on it, so we'll see.

Can't wait to hear the bullchit contract I'm going to have to deal with. Seven paycheques behind, seven paycheques that none of us will never make up. Pricks. I should take a penalty and retire at 28 ... receive a pension, and go work somewhere else.

In a nutshell, what happened was ... company said chit, they want a better contract ... we can afford to shut down and let them strike so we will allow them to do that. Today: Company - we just got away without paying you for three months ... saved roughly 1.5 million, and still made a profit selling electricity to the western US. Today: Union - we're getting a chitty contract and we're recommending that you (the members) take it. They can afford to not pay you for a LONG time. Take the contract.

Unions are good for:

a) Allowing you to not be fired on the spot by a 'staff' / non-union boss.

B) Protect your ass pretty good regarding different legal issues on the job.

That's all. That's all.

fudge 'em.

/rant.

They have their good points though, they were going to close my dad's division but the union kept them working and forced the plant to stay open.

It really sucked. Honestly, you can only ride the fence for so long. Working for one company while getting paid for another.
