Fine Woodworking

Recommended Posts

Lol ... I probably have one of those crates laying around :P

Standard finishing process:

1. Spray sealer.  Let dry half an hour.

2. Sand with 220.

3. Spray second coat of sealer.  Let dry over night.

4. Sand with 220 - no imperfections.

5. Spray first coat of laquer.  Let dry one hour.

6. Second coat of laquer.  Let dry over night.

7. Steel wool and furniture polish - for the shine.

8. Buff wax coat on - for protection.

But Nick can get whatever he wants ;)

As an example, the total cost of wood for the coffee table pictured above was only around 60 bucks.  The glass was only 10.  60 bucks worth of wood transformed into something some people sell for thousands, which is nuts.

Sounds sexy... and that is exactly why I put off (even basic) furniture type work. I simply do not have the patience sometimes. :o

thousands.... tell me about it. I just sent out $260 for a wicker/ratton two person papasan (yes thats the spelling per Google). Valentine's present. Ugh. Eh. It could come in handy...

Sorry Steve, had a small family emergency yesterday. Spent 7hrs in the ER. Didn't have a chance to look into shipping yesterday. It is the agenda today.

Thanks.

-Nick

Well, well... promising news.

I've had a good conversation with a local Canadian chain store. I may be able to set up a physical address rather easily and frugally. She's checking a few details (size limitations et al) and will get back to me. :D

Now, I just need to find CAD somewhere to layout some schematics... hmmmm

I'll be heading in to work at six my time and will probably stick around until 8:30 or so. Which is 11:30 your time, kind of late.

Maybe tomorrow afternoon could work.

Tell me now so I can cut / glue up two of everything :P

Kent, if you want my to type up everything that Nick wants and send it to you - that's fine. I can do the same, or make any changes you may want.

would it be too much trouble to have it like a dark red finish? i don't know much about wood color, but maybe u know what i'm talking about...like a dark cherry?

gold plate..and as far as font goes, just something fancy..lol

that is all...lmao!!

um, price?

Gold pate, good stuff. Wifes name?

Dark red - cherry would be quite a lot more than pine. I could leave it bare and you could find a dark stain, or I could find something if you wanted.

Price, honestly - look around and see what other boxes go for. I really don't know what they go for these days. Wood is pretty cheap. If you give a price that's too much I'll say forget it - I'm not out to rip you off like those knothead stores.
