New Warranty Policies

Recommended Posts

New Warranty policy stipulations effective as of 10-2-2008 within the USA:

1) If your amplifier has a blown power supply or damage from excessive vibration there will be a charge for a warranty replacement within the 2-year policy:

* SAZ-1500D and smaller amplifiers (or any future model under 2000 watts) - $30 in the continental USA (AK and HI add $15)

* SAZ-2000D and SAZ-3000D (or any future model 2000 - 3000 watts) - $50 in the continental USA (AK and HI add $20)

2) If there is no obvious sign of either of the above the warranty replacement within the 2-year policy will remain a free replacement.

3) For either free replacement or flat-rate charge replacement the amplifier must be in at least "fair" condition. Amplifiers with excessive wear and tear and/or physical damage, as deemed by the sole discretion of Sundown Audio, will fall under the following stipulations:

* Blown power supply or excessive vibration damage will be fixed by db-R Electronics and customer will be charged for actual repair and shipping costs (***)

* Amplifiers that qualify for free replacement but are in less than "fair" condition will be repaired by db-R Electronics at no cost to the customer.

4) For any of the above it is assumed that the customer has shipped the amplifier back to Sundown Audio properly packaged and it has been received without physical damage from shipping. As stated in the current warranty text, "In the event of shipping damage due to improper packaging of the return the customer is liable for the cost of all damages, necessary repairs, or replacement."

5) After the 2-year policy has expired the 5-year discounted replacement policy will be in effect for 3 more years. The cost of the discounted replacement will vary on a pro-rated scale based on the physical condition of your returned amplifier. This will be handled on an individual basis - replacement cost will start at around 1/2 of MSRP cost for units with excessive wear and tear and/or physical damage and decrease for units in excellent condition. As stated in the current warranty text, "This offer applies ONLY to the original purchaser of the unit and is not transferable like the 2 year limited warranty."

*** - Out of warranty repair rates from db-R as follows:

SAZ-1500D $110-$135

SAZ-3000D $225-$325

SAE-1000D $100-$120

SAX-100.2 $90-$100

SAX-100.4 $110-$130

Also worth noting:

"Warranty on subwoofers and loudspeakers is NOT transferrable."

This went into effect with new warranty policies.

A common question - "If I don't have an invoice is a printed shopping cart receipt okay?"

Yes it is. If you buy from SSA or another authorized online dealer a printed shopping cart receipt will work as long as it is dated, had the item listed, and shows that you were in fact on the web-site of the authorized dealer in question.

so I got two brand new nightshades that I purchased from someone else with no warranty, huh?

If there is an obvious defect we will try to take care of you within a reasonable time frame - but it is very difficult to tell what people do to woofers over time so transferring the warranty is a headache.

It is important to note that many competition woofers come with no warranty at all - eg: FI BTL, so we believe is is quite fair to have a warranty to the original purchaser only. They also do not offer a transferable warranty on speakers - I am just using Fi as an example to show it's industry standard practice.

You will be hard pressed to find many companies that transfer warranties on anything - and we have and still do so on amplifiers, just not on loudspeakers / woofers.

You can still buy re-cones and parts if you need them.
