GOOD FRIGGIN' NEWS!!!!!

Recommended Posts

so, i found out on saturday that after i come up with 1400 bucks for repairs, i can have my dads old car. it is a 99' ford contour. you know me, the typical basshead, already thinkin about possible woofers. i settled upon the IA-DP21

i want to put a wall where the backseat is, and integrate the box into the car. (i.e. make a box using wall of backseat, firing woofer into cabin, porting it through the rear deck) I think it would look cool as hell. Here is the amp i am gonna use:

i know, not the best but i want to bump a little while saving up for a 3kd. damn, bell rang g2g to lunch. ty for feedback on this idea!

Are you going to be able to afford the DP21? let alone the electrical and stuff to support an amp and stuff?

I'd save up some cash after you get the car fixed, and then once you get so much saved up decide what your going to do..

I would save more money and get a better amp first.

Why not start a little smaller and get it all set up right from the beginning? Yeah a dp 21 is big and loud(I guess) but will you have the cubes an electrical for it. I know a guy that has 400 watts goin to a 10 in a good enclosure and from the vids I have seen it beats pretty hard. You'll have to get an alt, or cap if you want to go that way(low wattage)and all the wiring and all that man, just take your time and do it right IMO

people, i believe the first time is the only time to do it right, i will be getting a new alt, two batteries, and 0 gauge all over. this isn't some half assed ghetto stereo. this is my entrance into the true audio world.

Then why are you buying a power acoustic amp? Oh and that thing is gonna be hard to sell when you upgrade.

Are you going to have enough cubes in the contour to run a dp 21? dont they need like 10 cubes?

I would search the f/s threads, here and on ROE to see what pops up there are some really good used amps and even subs on the forums all the time man. I had to wait months to but my alt. And more months for my sundown stuff. Still waiting to sell my subs to get new ones. Patience.....

lol, if this was anyone but the backpack sub boy, nobody would be doubting a DP 21" in a Contour.

they just think i will half ass it, and do something stupid. i haven't really proved them wrong thus far, so i better work hard on this one!

well I have read all the threads..... if it was an experienced installer with previous setups similar, yeah it would be hard to doubt. Even tho, i would still be iffy bout a dp21 in a contour......

I used to have a 98 contour. About the only way you're getting a 21 in that thing properly is a full wall. About the biggest that would fit in the back seat opening area without mutilating the reardeck would be a 15. If you did mutilate the rear deck you'll end up using the entire trunk i'm sure and will compromise the strength of the car by mutilating the rear deck. I had a 15 in the trunk and it barely fit rear firing. You could sneak an 18 but it would have to be up-firing.

my amp. well, soon to be. please people, am i missing something? half the price of a 3kd, and higher output? too good to be true?

Probably has something to do with the fact it's a 1600 watt amp.

oh my god...i get retarded when i dont sleep. alright lets try this again. what brand of 3kw amp should i get if on a budget, to power a DP21?

I'd say wait with the DP idea and do like someone else said. Contours are small and mine was pretty loud with a Brahma MK IV with a crappy Hifonics amp. Doing something "right the first time" doesn't mean going balls to the wall right away. Start with excellent value equipment like a SAE sundown amp and a decent sub from a good company like a lower IA sub or an FI SSD or even a BL. An awesome "starter" setup would be the new sundown 1200 and a BL with an option or two and one extra battery (which with a 1200 watt amp this may barely even be necessary). The V6 contours have a bigass battery and 130 amp alt, don't know about the 4 bangers, so you could be sitting ok there. Side note on the V6 alternators: they're a huge PITA to change.

I had a Cadence TXA1000-D on my old Q. I was extremely happy with it, but I do know my next amp will be a sundown. Save the money and do it right! Have you thought about walling off two 15's? That would be a much easier build and still get terribly loud in a contour.

Errr, my bad. Measure the trunk up and see if you can do a 'wall' where the back seat is/was. I think that makes sense.

i just picked up a brand new 2008 model sundown 3000d for 625 picked up....love it and great price. the amp is a BEAST.

heres an idea. get a 1500d and run that, then u can get another and strap them if you feel you need the extra power.

Have you heard any "loud" in-car setups before? Maybe telling us what you consider loud will help with better suggestions for you. If I were you I would get a Sundown 1500d and a pair of Mach 5 IXL's or Incriminator LI's or something along those lines. In a properly built box they'll be plenty enough bass. Especially since you haven't mentioned anything about what you're doing for door speakers.

Edit: I meant a pair of 12'' IXL's or LI's. This way you can put them in the trunk and not take up the backseat of your first car ever. Start simple and get more complex as you LEARN MORE.
