alright... so i dont have back speakers any longer... . and long ago a few guys here jimjm5 im not gonna name names told me to drop my rear fill.

well now i have a sexy sundown 4 channel and and my front is in need of a filling sound.

i listen to rap.... so sq is funny for my goals right... but lets talk about it.

You may as well make those adapter mounts yourself, out of MDF.

You'll have to use the Head unit's HPF to help with the crossover duties along with the 100.4's onboard ones. Unless you decide you want to use an external crossover. Or if you want to get a head unit capable of 2-way.

And after you decide that, what's your budget?

A better baffle really helps your midbass, don't skimp on those little plastic things build something out of mdf.

Considering this is your first shot and midbass will help you a lot. I'd use the Seas CA18RNX. $150 or so for the pair and it will leave you with more than plenty to get a variety of great tweeters to go with them. What sort of mounting space and location do you have for the tweets?

With a rather simple mid like that you can get away with just the amp crossovers, although more processing capability never hurts.

im really not sure if i have depth for the 7 inch seas.

but this is a big choice....

The Sundown can take care of what you need.

Smaller depth mid = less midbass. They do make the CA18RLY for that purpose, but I'd try damn hard to fit in the RNX.

There are smaller tweeters, but I was spending your budget If you have to go small, the Seas Neo is hard to beat when you are on a limited budget.

hey bigjohn you like your type rs? mebbe upgrade to type x's? JL makes some nice comps, I listen to rap(screw) most of the time and my Orions keep up fine, (I know I coud have done better), what is your spending limit? 150? You like the really high highs? Or a super clean sound?

maybe someone can chime in about the comps..the only comp set that i've had was the alpine type x 5.25's. sounded decent but i know it's better out there. try looking toward cdt, pg, or boston. the last time i heard a boston comp set it sounded good to my ears but that was awhile ago and i don't know if they are still on top of their game.

It does, if you want to use passively crossed speakers, for this application however, it won't work... well, it will, but he'll have to use the amp crossovers.

Nothing wrong with wanting to sound better. And tbh, there is no passive comp set that will be better than running active.

At least.. without spending $1k on a set of Dynaudio 360's.

While there is more hassle with an active setup, in his budget even with just the amp crossovers (which are FAR from ideal) the HDS/CA18 combination will compete with passive sets costing 5x as much. Your comments recommending otherwise are not based on any real experience

and that is what im asking for real experiences......

the type R's were fine for a year or so... but as i age my taste grow.

i have alot of money in my lows stage... and now its time to spend a lil on the rest. now more then ever seems how i do not have any rear fill.

i must check depth before even thinking about the 7 inch...... if my OEM speaker location was at the bottom of the door i would have more of a chance.. but its in the center... it would be sweet to run a 7 inch mid and a 1 inch tweet active.

As far as "mainstream" ones go, they're out there of course, but the value is so skewed to DIY it's absurd. Alpine's F1 stuff is great, yeah, but I'd rather have the unbadged SS drivers themselves. Even the Polk SR's probably do pretty well, but a Vifa ring radiator and midbass are a lot less expensive at Madisound and you don't get passive Xovers that'll be useless to you.

m5, your recommendation is fine as a matter of fact that's the route i would go. but he clearly stated that the only music he listens to is rap nothing else, and on top of that he didn't want to spend any additional money on processing, that it why i made the recommendation i did.
