2000 Dodge Ram

Recommended Posts

A few months ago I deadened the floor pan and the rear wall with a roll of RAAMmat and it cleaned up the sound tremendously. I have a Massive Audio CW12 downfiring out of a JL Audio Stealthbox disguised as the middle seat. Then I decided that new speakers were in order because the JL Audio TR series were not doing a good enough job. I did some research and decided on Focal Polyglass speakers and the new Focal Solid 2 channel amplifier. Considering the 6.5 inch woofer and the 4 inch mid wouldn't fit in the stock 6x9 hole I had to make baffles and glass them into the doors. Right now its just a temporary solution until I figure out a better way to do it. This is not show quality work by any means!

That would be really sweet but I mounted the crossovers in the kicks and found out that having a parking brake down there creates a bit of an obstacle. I need to make some grills to go over the 6.5/4 combo but I'm not quite sure how to go about it. Anybody have any ideas or advice to share?

Since the speakers are performing better than my expectations, I have begun to notice the weaknesses of the CW12. I borrowed todd.brust's Brahma and his ported box he had in his Lincoln to see how I like it. It is a nice sub and kicks the crap out of the Massive. I think I will build a ported box to fit in the center console area to replace the stealthbox. Maybe Todd will be nice enough to come over and lend his knowledge and craftsmanship for the weekend :)

I cut a piece of sheet metal to fit across the front and back round tube supports of the seat and screwed it down with some self tapping metal screws. Then screwed the amps down on top of the seat fabric.

Two 12s will be awesome in that small cab. What will you be using?

Nice start! What sort of baffle are you using for the drivers? A healthy reinforcement of them will really make your midbass pop.

I cut a tear dropped shape trim piece out of 1/2 inch birch to fit he two speakers. I then added another trim piece for the 4 inch so that it would stick out a half inch higher than the 6.5. Then I cut a hole in the door panel just slightly smaller than the baffle and fiberglassed both sides.

The baffles do need some more bracing thats for sure but I need to figure out a way to protect the speakers more than anything. Any ideas on that would be much appreciated!

Also, ProFiMesto, I took my rear fill out and the sound and clarity is just as present in the rear as in the front. In my opinion, a rear fill is a waste of money especially in that small of a cab

The CW is a great sub. I am rather impressed with the products Massive Audio puts out. When I first learned about Massive a year ago, the dealer here in town (Innovative Electronic Solutions) scored a 135.3 with a Massive Audio DMX12 in a ported box at a competition. I'm kind of interested in their new lines they came out with but I have an itch for a Nightshade or an Icon. So many ideas, so little money. Thanks for the great comments guys.

Now that spring is creeping in to the great Midwest, it is time for some upgrades!

First update: The Dodge has been sitting in the driveway for a while with oil pressure problems. Oil pressure would drop to zero when it was really cold and I let the dealer look at it (big mistake). They said it was the oil pressure switch and charged me out the a$$ in labor for a 50 dollar part. I really hate not having a good garage to work in. After they supposedly fixed the issue, I was still having problems. This past Thursday it was a scorching 45 degrees here so I decided to drop the oil pan and see what the real cause could be. The oil pickup screen had hardened sludge on it (see picture below) and was in desperate need of a replacement. Got it all back together and ran some Seafoam through it and now the old 360ci is running in prime shape with full oil pressure. :woot:

As far as audio goes, I sent in my amps to Jacob for a trade in. Hopefully I will be receiving a 125.2 and a 1500D soon! I will be taking the Massive Audio sub out and designing a center console to house an Xcon 12. I will also be relocating the 4 inch mid to the A pillar so there will be some fiberglassing to do. This will give me a chance to clean up the hastily made and terrible looking door pods. I am going to fully deaden the doors and maybe do more layers on the floor and back wall. Now all I need is my tax refund to start the ordering and the building!

I received two Sundown Audio amplifiers today. I have to say, I am a huge fan of the trade-in program that Jacob is running. It presented a fantastic opportunity for me to upgrade my amps. I was able to hook up the 125.2 that will be running my three-way passive front stage and after a good amount of play time, it was still cold. Big thanks to Jacob for a quality product and great customer service! :fing34: The 1500D I got will have to wait until I pick up more 1/0, but I also am waiting on my xcon 12 to be built and shipped.

I tried modeling out the xcon in WinISD and got .9 cubes for a ported box and .45 cubes IIRC for a sealed. I know that is way off of what is expected and I'm still not sure what went wrong. I read in another topic that recommended sealed is 1-1.25 cubes and I am guessing that ported is slightly larger than that. Does anybody have any input on this? I am thinking a blend of the two types of boxes with one port and making a plug to allow for a sealed alignment. Still undecided though. :ughdunno:

Worked on the amp rack the past two days. Same idea as the previous amp rack but using 3/4" MDF and angle iron. I used T- Nuts and allen head bolts to fasten the amps to the rack. Looks much cleaner than regular screws in my opinion, definitely worth the extra time.

Next up is running the wiring and cleaning up little details. My xcon should be here Monday!

wow, took long enough for some good ole Dodge hate to come into this thread. :)

hahaha. jk

I know you were, funny thing is my parents have owned Fords, Chevys, and an International. The Scout was a beast but all have their issues. I owned a '77 Chevy Suburban and that was the best truck I have had. Sure it didn't have all the amenities of modern vehicles, but you gotta love a truck that you can sit in the engine bay while fixing it.
