FI Q10 Questions

Recommended Posts

I have a couple of questions regarding the 10" FI Q.

Will a JL Audio 500/1 be enough to get decent SQ out of the D1 sub, wired for 2 Ohms? I'm looking for nice, tight bass, rather than real loud.

What's the optimum sealed box size for this sub? I'm looking at two pre-made boxes for my 350Z, one is .75 cubic feet (Large understrut 350Z box), the other is .43 cubic feet (Small 350Z box --both measured before the displacement of the FIQ10, which is .12 ft^3, according to the specs page. That's approx 6.3 ft^3 for the larger understrut box (I can add some add some wood to the inside to get that down under .6 ft^3), or .31 ft^3 for the smaller box -- which seems pretty tiny for the Q10.

Suggestions?

Plenty of power for it :)

As for enclosure sizes, if you can fit it I'd probably go for volume on the larger end of recommended, you could always add some polyfill if it's on the small side.

You are going to put a Q in a prefab box and expect SQ?

In the 350Z community Zenclosures are almost legendary for their form and fitament. They have several boxes that fit under the unique 350Z rear strut:

I'm handy enough with MDF that I think I could throw together a pretty solid sub box, but I don't know that I can custom build a box that would fit better than the Zenclosure!

Given that all the joints are well-sealed and they used MDF instead of particleboard, I don't see why it should be any problem :)

I actually think that would look quite sharp, should sound great.

Heard nothing but positive comments on the enclosures so far. Quite a few using the SSDs and Qs in them with excellent results. While the enclosure is a little on the large side for most customers tastes, I do prefer a lower qts alignment and think it would sound fine.

Thanks,

Scott
