ok i have a 1989 ford ranger super cab and just about all the speakers are busted so obviously ill be upgrading, i know close to nothing about highs, so are there any suggestions, its 4"s in the doors and 6.5"s in the back and ill be making fiberglass panels to fit whichever tweeters i get.

Forget the rear doors. Could you cut any metal to fit 5.25" midbasses?

im pretty sure, but i dont have any rear doors, its called a super cab but its really just an extended cab, or maybe i could just make a fiberglass kick panel and just put some highs in the doors?

There are midbasses, midranges, and tweeters - "highs" doesn't really mean anything

If you can fit 5.25's in front, you'll be on your way. Tweets could go on the A-pillars - I've heard them there in a Ranger and it sounded like a good start.

why should you consider putting anything in the back? It won't add any volume and will ruin your stage.

By not spending money on speakers that are behind you, you can afford better speakers that are in front of you where they should be. The next thing to ask is are you just wanting to do passive components off a single 2 channel amplifier or are you considering active off a pair of 2 channels or a 4 channel amp?

ok now ive figured that i want to go with a active setup, and probably mount the crossover at the bottom of my dash, can anyone suggest a good set of components? and would a 2 way or 3 way be better for my vehicle?

I think you meant that you want to run passive. Active systems consist of individually bought drivers, not component sets, and have no crossovers included. Your speakers in an active setup would be crossed over with your head unit, amplifiers, and/or processor.

you could use a component set and throw away the passive cross over, but that is a HUGE WASTE of money. Crossovers are a verry large part of the cost of component sets. you can get better drivers by NOT buying component sets, and then use the active processor to make it work. It will sound better and in many cases cost the same or less.

where does anyone have any suggestions for drivers and a processor, i was thinkin of puttin some midranges in my door, and midbass in some kick panels and then tweeters in the a pillars, and the door size is 4" but i could probably change it accordingly

You weren't wrong here in calling it a crossover, it's just the issue that was brought up about re-using passive sets as active ones

Not to say the results would be bad, always - it's just not an effective use of your money.
