sub up ports to the side... much louder at the head rest (MECA Style)

any good box designing programs i could use to figure out the specs for it? or possibly can you help?

yeah I'll get you some rough dimensions... it'll take a couple

48 x 20 x 18

gives you roughly 6 cubes after all displacements (pending on how heavy you brace, dimensions only good for a single layer of .75 inch material)

w h L

17x5x27 slot port gives you roughly 30 hz (port consumes 1.66cubes) (I allowed .5 cubes for woofer and bracing)

fire sub up on pass side and port towards drivers, flip box around to be louder on the other side

Id suggest that you atleast double up the baffle

loud side=port side

Usually if you roll down the window on the sub side you gain a ton of output on the portside headrest... open the door and it gets even louder... I use that design to show off at car shows. I let the people get in and shut the door then I just leave mine open...

*all shut up my pass headrest meters about 1db higher than the drivers (my ports are aimed at pass side)

possibly tune it to around 33-35hz

how much shorter would i need to go to do that?

about 15inches long

you could increase port height to 6 and change the length to 22 for more port area and a 34hz tuning

alright, 1 sheet of mdf should do the trick?

1 SHEET won't do it... I think the best you could end up is a sheet and a half. one sheet will cover the top, bottom, front back and sides the other sheet will be needed for the second baffle layer, port, and any bracing....

the sheet will be 49x96x.75 you'll need:

2 20x48

2 16.5x28

2 16.5x18.5

1 16.5x(port length)

2 (port length x port height)

1 18.5x(port length)

2 (port length x port height)

had a mistake on the other.... wrong port width... these are right.

well have fun building :)

I assume you undersand how the port goes together..

these dimension make the box a little easier to build (you don't have to cut out the opening for the port this way)

If you don't understand how it goes together I can make a quick sketch.

2 20x48

2 16.5x28

1 16.5x18.5

1 (16.5 minus port heigth) x 18.5

1 18.5x(port length)

2 (port length+.75") x (port height)

make sure you post pics :)
