RE Audio

Recommended Posts

RE subs have had a really good reputation for sounding great and having a strong threshold for abuse, however there's no talk of them anymore. Did their quality go downhill or is it the raise in price that is causing them to not be as popular as they used to be?

Their switch to a dealer network instead of online sales caused the rabble to go elsewhere...

Did their products go down in quality?

I had a chance to hear an SR, and I didn't think so...

It's not a question of quality, it's a question of whether or not the typical keyboard commando is willing to pay the prices they're wanting at dealers.

How did they sound? A friend of mine has a 600 watt amp and is looking for a good pair of 12s and is strongly considering them.

Not bad, but nothing particularly special, either.

For what they were charging I'd rather have a Shiva-X or SI BM if I wanted a 12".

Would you say it was louder and better than CompVR or W3v3? I'm kinda iffy on the BMs. The box requirments sound funny to me. I've personally been iffy about slim subs since they came out.

Louder doesn't equal better for me so I'd have a hard time answering that :)

I'd certainly take the BM's over CompVR's or W3v3's.

Well I know that RE subs are sapposed to sound good except for their SPL sub line. Did it get louder than the JLs and CVRs and did it have good SQ?

I never metered it, because I didn't care :)

Not sure what you mean by their "SPL" line, maybe the SX?

a good friend of mine has a re sx 15 dual 2 coil on a lunar 500 watt amp and it sounds really good and gets down, its in a 3.5 ct3 box but he just ordered another and another lunar because he liked it so much, but they sound pretty good, and get down for only 500 watts

Ah, OK.

I personally think the SX's sound like wet farts, but that's just my opinion.

If you really want an RE sub, get a single SE. That would work perfect with 600 watts.

Mine sounded good ported or sealed, although I preferred sealed. I switched back and forth a few times and settled on sealed.

Good SQ and when they were ported, had the ability to get loud(not to say they didn't get decently loud sealed)

But I'd agree with Jim, for the prices, they aren't worth it anymore. I picked up 2 SEs when RE was still online for $253 Shipped!

The only RE subs i owned were a pair of 15" SX...

overall sound was good...

BUT i found them lacking when 1 Sundown SAZ 3000d was getting the coils warm enuff too smell..... can anyone say get the BBQ sause :)

but really as long as you dont over power them there a Great sub !

never had the RE XxX but the Pre switch subs were respectable... 1 12" in a 2.25cf ported @ 28Hz in a Mustang with a cheep Hifonics 1500d was Impressive too say the least.

as for the New RE i have NEVER seen 1 live so ill let someone else dropp a dime on that 1

I know the PRICE of the NEW RE sub keeps me @ bay fer-sure

i know :) but in all fairness they did sound good trying to take 1000watts more than Rated for the set in a boxx ported for music :)

i think if i had tried to do SPL in a box ported above 50Hz they would have done the job ! but i let someone that needed them more than i did have them before i did mecanical damage pushing them psat there thermial limits

I am currently running four RE SR12's in my '01 mustang with only .7 cu.ft. sealed for each sub, and I can tell you that I am very pleased with their performance. I've tried Rockford fosgate P3's and Kicker Comp VR's, and in my opinion they don't compare. I gave $500 shipped for all four of my SR's from a dealer that sells on eBay, and I think they were worth every penny, but who knows, maybe that 500 smackers could have got me something even better, but either way, I still think RE makes some good quality stuff that will stand up to a lot more abuse than they are rated for.

I think the XBL2 XXXs were probably some of the best sounding subs ever made, home or car audio. I still run a pair of the 18s in my living room.

Honestly, I have bought and used maybe 50 or 60 subs from RE, and I have always been very happy, they are just a little pricey these days... I think I have installed maybe 30 RE 8s over the years, LOL...

RE has good rep in the car auidio world from their old buisness structure. I think they were a bit different at the time, and definately a wonderfull alternative to the marketed crap in your average big box car audio store

The older xxx did sound pretty decent for the time considering how much power they put out.

The new XXX has some sadistic Xmax when you read the specs, and a verry low FS. Makes me wonder how amazing it would be in an 18 inside the house for an HT sub... then I remindmyself of the retarded price. 2k for a sub.. ouch. Not for the average guy.

I have never seen a DIYer use one even, have you ever seen a new XXX used for a home aplication Jim?
