Throwing around some ideas for an enclosure

Recommended Posts

If I do my setup the way I'm thinkin, looks like I can only fit tens.

Max diemensions is 34 w X 15 h, I'm pretty certain. I've got the rest of my truck bed in regards to length.

I've got a few ideas..

boxideas.jpg

Lemme explain this. First off, these are overhead view of how the box would be. There not to spec or anything, just some ideas. Its not the right diemensions or anythin.. just some ideas how I could fit a few 10s.

Would fire into my window.

The first one, top left, is a sealed box, kinda based on a clamshell on its side.

second one has four subs, and a port in the middle.

Bottom is just a ported box with two tens firing into the window (not sure if you could fit two tens and the port there, but.. )

I could also do three tens firing in the window sealed..

What you guys think?

I'm not sure what to do for subs. Was looking at WoofersETC and Sonic Electionx.

Been looking at Infinity Kappa 102.7s, other subs around that price range, especially if I use four, and have to ship them..

I still can get the two IXL-12.2.2s, and the 2500D, but I won't have enough dough to finish the stereo so whats the point.

I've used the first setup in the past. Worked very well in a cut-through. I'd recommend a cut-through instead of taking out the rear window, FWIW.

Would you guys use 10s or 12s?

I'm thinkin 10s would be better.. those diemensions are what the exterior size of the box would be.

can you guys reccomend some 10s or 12s for a mid power application? im thinking under 2000 watts in total.

I posted this on ROE, just puttin it here as well.

I think a "clamshell on its side" would be my best bet, not sure if id go ported or sealed, hoping to get ahold of Fallen..

Any suggestions?

I might go with 4 12s ...

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...se+SW4210.html something around that price range, maybe a lil more.

four of the Eclipses... are Estimated order total$322.73 ...

i'm looking for this to be a lower power application, something I'd be able to run on 1-2 stock alternators and a decent battery

Is there any program I could use to design such an odd box?

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_10213_...cs+G112-44.html

Bostons site says these are 200RMS

Estimated order total $322.73

Do it right the first time. Buy the IXL's now and wait untill you have enough money to finish the setup.

I have enough cash to finish it, I think, I just don't want to spend it all.

Are 8's out of the question? Maybe 4 Sundown E8's or 8 of them and an amp. Of course I have become partial to sundown. But you have the space for about any config you want with a truck and topper. Are you "blowing" in from a sliding rear window since you are not cutting?

You are going to accordion boot your window?

I too will recommend the IXL's

Its basically a blowthrough where you would cut the bed and the cab, and use that accoridian boot or gasket, but I'm putting that between the cab and the camper shell and the rear of the cab, and taking out both windows, there wont be any sliding glass. I'm doing it so I don't have to cut the cab.

I am kinda considering some Icons from Pound That Sound in Salmon Arm, but I'm not sure yet.. I dunno..

I can get 4 Boston G1 12s dual 4s, 4 Eclipse SW4210 dual 4s, for the same price, $322.73 estimated via UPS to Canada.

Then I'd need a 1000-1500W amp.

I'm not sure though. I'd kinda like to have a bit of money left.. since I don't have a job right now, I'd like to build a quad and buy a few things for my truck, and I got an engine and stuff coming that I will need to finish assembling, and buy a transmission and lil things.

if the money is a question, I would say either downsize your adventure. The wood alone will cost a pretty penny if you do it right. Or just buy realy high quality and wait. I think you will be nothing less than dissapointed if you use less expencive product. I always am when I go cheep with something.

If I were in your shoes I would save the cash. But again that's just my thought.

I'm waiting to see what shipping on two Fi SSD 15s would be. I think that would be a better option, its a quality subwoofer, and it don't take as much power, so I could use something like a Hifonics Bxi-1608D. :neil:

The thing that seems to happen if one buys inexpensive stuff at first is that they will end up upgrading, only to loose money in the long run.

That is why I mentioned doing it right the first time :)

Can't praise enough about the amp. I bought one from Jacob used. It works flawlessly. The funny thing about subwoofers is even if you buy a cheaper model, you can always throw together a box and sell them to a teenager. As long as you haven't shredded them. But I agree with the consensus of buy as good as your budget will allow. Are you going to be competing with this system in the future? Because depending on that and what type of competition SPL SQ LSQ, that could better help you determine what to buy.

Well my box designer says that the IXLs will work better for my application...

I guess I'll have to get the IXLs and 2500D. I do want them. But the electrical to back it up is the problem.

If I go with the IXL 12s and Orion 2500D combo.. I wont be able to put it all together.. I dunno if I could find a alternator.. I could probably get everything else..

I'll have to use the stock speakers for now I guess.

here's you some cheap (50-60each) woofers that perform well :) (I have about 50 of each size :) )

I had a pair of the 12's in my Mazda doing' 148's at the headrest (meca style) just 1500 watts....

and the pair of 10's did 146's @ 46 hz

I'm not familiar with the IXL 12s but I'd say stay away from the Orion amp (just a personal opinion). go with the sundown or something comparable

Personally since I'm a kicker man I have to suggest kicker but I have nothing against sundown.. Never ran them but everyone seems to have nothing but good to say
