Giving up the MAW-15's......

Recommended Posts

so, I went to my local car audio shop and was getting a box built for my maw-15's that would fit in the trunk of my '06 Pontiac G6. And obviously thats going to be impossible trying to build a box to the rec. specs for the maw-15's. Anyway. He then turned me on to alternative route. Groundpounders from Crunch Audio. Now I will probably keep my Maw's in my Taurus, but for the G6 I was intrigued with the things he told me. The Subs look quite stout. So I was considering going with a 2x 12" GP12D2 setup or a 3x GP10D2 setup. Not sure what would be better. Or if thats even good at all. Im currently in college so money is tight. but with the $65 pricetag at onlinecarstereo.com it seems reasonable. I am pulled in many directions. please help. thanks in advance

No wonder he turned you to GP's since he sells them :(

I personally don't like those subs.

What is your budget / power ?

I'd never buy Crunch no matter how much they're actually or just supposedly better than a few years ago.

As Adrian said, budget and install goals?

why not a single maw15 in the trunk? or any single, better manufactured, sub over teh multipule crunch? box build will be way easier, and if using the right sub/enclosure/power, will still get low and loud. and probably sound better and last longer. with roughly $200 for a sub (going by the $65 price tag and 3 x 10 comments), there are quite a few options.

I like Kent's idea of trying a single MAW-15 first.

Well im currently pushing 2 of the 15's with an orion 600d amp. i think they are getting around 200 to each sub. and I know they will take waayyy more than that.... If I go with a single 15 setup with 500watts on the one sub. will it sound better than the 2 15's with 200 each? I know there is an issue with cone area that effects the sound or whatever. I just want to be close or better than how my two 15's are now.... The right sized enclosure will help too. Currently the box is 2.5^3 for both 15's i know, its horrible but. yea. If I can get the one 15 to sound good and loud i wil be happy. and it will help on the money issue. thanks

oh jeez, 2.5 cubes for both 15s is cutting them off by a ton.

So exactly how much space do you have to work with? If you have the room, a single ported 15 off all 600 watts would likely sound worlds better than what you have now. If you don't, a single sealed 15 in the proper airspace would still likely sound better.
