Speakers... component setup...

Recommended Posts

I'm running out of thread titles..

I'm going to be getting two Mach 5 IXL-12s, and a Orion 2500D to power the two.

My truck(see sig) right now, has no head unit and it has one factory speaker that works if I remeber right. I got a replacement headunit, but.. no speakers/component setup/whatever else I can do.

What should I do? should I go with 3 way speakers or whatever they are, or go with a component setup? I don't have a lot of cash on tap.. I gotta finish a motor when it arrives, and gotta pay Mark @ Mach 5 when the money transfers to my paypal.

Should I worry about a rear stage?

I put some older Pioneer subs, Kenwood KAC8103D, and a Kenwood KDC-205 in a sunfire, and the rear speakers chit out, so I replaced them with some Dual 6x9s. I wasn't working at the time. Thats pretty much all the experience I have with speakers and stuff. The sunfire had a 4x6 and a tweeter in each of the front doors, and two 6x9s in the rear shelf.

Uncle had a 95 Silverado with 4 Pioneer 12s under the rear seat, and he had custom door pods made up, that replaced the junk holders in the doors with a box that held 3 speakers (and 3 tweeters if I remember right) maybe I could do something like that?

My cousin is ok with fiberglass, so I might get him to help me with that.

I'm open to any ideas. I will have lots of space to work on my truck when we move here shortly.

Maybe get some tweeters and crossovers and some MLi-65s (I think thats what they are) from Mach 5?

Somewhere that will ship to Canada would be nice.

I'd say just buy some coaxials and put them in the factory spot.

rear stage is worthless.

If you cannot get a new HU that can go active I agree with KU.

Lol I just bought this headunit

Well, I can make up boxes or whatever to fit something like a 6.5" round speaker so...

Any suggestions on Make/Model of coaxial?

Most people, myself included, do not have sigs on.

What headunit do you have, what budget for the speakers, what amplifier, what are your listening preferences, and what are your goals?

lol..

Well. I have a Pioneer DEH-4900IB for a headunit, I'll brb gotta check bank statements to see my budget, no amp yet,

I'm looking for some speakers/components that will sound good, not be harsh sounding, something that will keep up with my two Mach 5 IXL-12s.

My goals... To have speakers period I guess. I'm not looking for something crazy, just something better than the one functioning stock speaker in my pickup.

truck is a 94 sonoma regular cab btw.

If it were me, I'd put $100 or so into finding a vintage amp on Ebay (PG M series comes to mind, or maybe an older USAmps), and the rest into speakers.

oh, well shoot, 500 is a decent chunk of change. When I recommended coaxials I thought you were pressed (like under 100) and just wanted the easy fix.

See if you can fit 6.5" components in your doors (find a place for the tweeter as well, as it will be separate from the woofer). Then you can buy an amp for them as well to help bring them to life a little more.

As for suggestions, I've been out of the loop on new products and prices for a while. The manufacturers that are on this forum all have good stuff, so I'd check there first. I like my JL XR comps, though.

Well, honestly the cheaper the better, but if I have to spend a bit more, I will. But I also need more stuff, like wire, mdf, and probably other parts for my truck like clutch..

Would one component set keep up with my subs? I can't really find a place in the US that has cheap shipping to Canada. OCS is $24 per item I think plus brokerage and chit..

Parts express can ship USPS so I don't think it'd be so bad.
