Who The fudge Designed This ?

Recommended Posts

Have you ever walked into a room and just thought to yourself, "What the fudge were they thinking when they came up with this ?"

I know I do everytime I walk into my local Wal-Mart's bathroom and see 2-3 guys cocks while they're taking a piss because someone decided men don't need privacy. Yup, the door opens at a 90 degree angle the to the urinals. Did I mention you're also visible to everyone walking down the shoe aisle ? Awesome planning ...

Then I head on over to the largest store in town, The Real Canadian Superstore, but I ate McDonald's at Wal-Mart and suddenly need to go to the bathroom. I run over there clenching my ass cheeks together only to find out that there's only 1 stall for the men in a store that easily sees over 5,000 people a day ... So after standing and waiting and swallowing my vomit for about 30 minutes in line behind several men who may just have the worst smelling feces in the world in a highly-cramped washroom with no venthilation, I finally get to unload. Only to find out that the stupid store only puts one roll of toilet paper on the wall. So, what's left manages to suffice for one wipe. Can anyone say Klingons ?

After that little escapade, I decide to leave. Halfway through the parking lot, there's a 3-way stop at a 4-way intersection ... This makes sense ... So I have to wait and wait and wait and wait while cars going in the other direction can freely go, but I can't because some are turning ... and, of course, even if I wanted to go, I'd have to wait for the other two people who were there before me. Goodie ... I finally get a chance to go, but of course, some idiot decided to put 3 crosswalks (all going the same way) within 30 feet of each other, so I have to wait some more for the pedestrians.

After finally making it through the intersection, I have to stop again for jaywalkers ... Why are there jaywalkers, you ask ? Well that would be because there's no crosswalk where most people are going to cross ... in fact, coming from that side, there's no way to get to the 3 crosswalks I just passed without jaywalking. Well-thought out parking lot ...

So after stopping for 3 groups of jaywalkers who had no other choice because the parking lot designer didn't put crosswalks where they need crosswalks, I finally get to the traffic lights. It splits into two lanes and you'd think the right lane would be right-turn only, right ? Wrong, that would make too much sense ... I mean, the ONLY way to get out to the highway to go North, where most people live in town, is to turn right at this intersection and then left onto the highway. So I'm backed up behind about a dozen cars all because ONE person is going straight. Now, we're facing north and the traffic lights are on a timer. The timer goes 2 minutes westbound-eastbound, then 1 minute southbound, then us for one minute ... So after I wait 2-3 minutes, the light turns green and you'd think I'd be able to go ... Wrong again, why ? Because we have to wait for pedestrians, most of whom use the crosswalk we turn right over. So I wait and wait and wait and finally we start moving, then we stop 2 cars back and, of course, the guy I'm stuck behind is going straight. Wait 3 more minutes + another minute for pedestrians and I'm finally home free. Yay ...

Wait, no, I'm not ... Remember how I told you everyone lives North of town ? Yup, you guessed it, there's a huge line-up to turn left. Goodie ... I could've went straight through the last intersection and then left a little further, but that light doesn't even have an advance green and the light doesn't last very long. So I'm stuck behind several dozen vehicles, waiting through 2 lights. Fortunately, our lights are pretty long, so I get through pretty quickly. You start thinking, well this is pretty good planning ...

You get home and realize, "chit, I forgot something" and head back to town. Remember how you thought that light was good planning ? Haha, what an idiot you are ... Of course it's not good planning, it's Duncan ... So you're heading southbound to get back to Superstore and you hit a traffic jam about 2 km before that light. Why is there a traffic jam ? Because the long east-west light there that gets so many cars Northbound from the left turn lane, that's why ... So, instead of evening things out, they make the north-south light really short in comparison. Now, the previous two intersections to this both have really, really, really, really LONG north-south lights and don't have advance greens or long greens for those who want to turn left to go northbound, so everyone who wants to go northbound uses the same light. Anyways, so this one intersection which you originally thought was good planning just completely bottlenecks everyone. There are no roads to turn off except for the two intersections, but of course there's no designated right-hand turn. Of course, even if you do turn right down those roads, there's no way in hell you're going to get through town any faster than being stuck in traffic anyways because there are no left hand turns to go south. Yup, so you have to continue westbound through the highly congested old town where there are tons of sidewalks, tons of traffic, and even larger traffic jams. Yippie ... So after being stuck in traffic for over half an hour to go a whopping 3 km, you finally make it back to Superstore, buy your item, and do the same chit through the parking lot, at the light, etc. again ...

Now add the Christmas season (aka Christmas Chaos) ...

I love my town ... Oh, there's more stuff, but I've been typing this for close to half an hour now and it's 5 am ... :P

List anything you can think of that's poorly designed ...

Did you at least have to go back for something interesting or cool?

Yes, yes I did ...

My town is so poorly-designed, it's not even funny ... It doesn't seem like anything gets thought through ...

Another example would be that I went to a hockey game the other day where I had to park about a 15 minute walk away because of the lack of parking, get to the door, and get handed a new arena proposal. The new proposal is to ADD another arena and olympic-sized swimming pool to the ones we already have. The Arena would be over TRIPLE the capacity and it and the pool would take up HALF of the existing parking lot (plus a baseball field and the tennis courts) ... This makes sense ...

Sorry to hear about the poorly designed town you happen to reside in. My condolences to the family of whomever gets in your way on your next trip into town.

What hockey game did you watch? Cowichan Valley Capitals?
