Recommended Posts

Got these for free and I need help identifying these for a budget build in my Dad's neon :/. Both aren't going in, just trying to figure out which one to use and what model that JL is... thanks for the help!

The JL is aW1 or W0, but I don't believe the W0s had the vented pole.

The CV is a CLASSIC! I would kill to have a pair of XL12s in mint condition! They like larger vented enclosures only.

CV specs:

Type: Standard one-way driver

Shape: Round

Piston Type: Cone

Piston: Non-pressed kraft pulp

Frame: Die cast aluminum

Voice Coil: 2 in, aluminum coil bobbin

Fs = 30 Hz

Qms = 4.443

Vas = 152.9 liters

Xmax = 3.988 mm

Xmax (parallel) = 3.99 mm

Xmax (series) = 3.99 mm

Sd = 538.6 sq.cm

Qes = 0.235

Re = 3.4 ohms

Z = 4 ohms

Pe = 125 watts

Qts = 0.223

1-W SPL = 96 dB

Right on. Which would you use? I'm going ported for sure, just need to figure out which one. The CV is clearly in much better shape.

Depends on what you are looking for. The JL will work well with low power and 1 cube or slightly more sealed. The CV on the other hand, I believe will need around 2.5 cubes at least. Let me plug the numbers right quick.

Okay. Neon trunk to be exact. I'm helping a friend, and it's his first build, so sealed preferably.

jl is a w0 or a w1... i think the saround looks old. it will prolly crack and break, i would use the jl motor as a screw keeper, and or a soildering iron stand

The JL is definitely a W1v1. The W0 had a really pronounced bump in the backplate. Looked like a volcano without the crater portion. 1 CF sealed is about right for that sub maybe a little bigger. It also only really wants a max of 150w. Great old budget sub. I still have a 10W1 from 1991 that is in perfect shape. Was my first sub actually.
