12" FI SSD

Recommended Posts

When I first joined this forum, I had intentions of buying a FI BL and a sundown 1500d, but after i figured out the total costs of wiring , box, and all the goodies, it was WAYYYY too much for me. I am now looking into a FI SSD 12" or 15". What amp would you recommend for this subwoofer, it would be for a ported enclousure btw. Sundown is costly for me, but hifonics is crap quality from what i hear. So just need a decent amp to push the subwoofer. Thanks!

Ps. and gauge wire would i need to run?

I would recommend getting a 15" with maybe a Kicker zx750.1. Maybe would meet your budget? What is your budget btw?

well after cost of sub and amp. I figure roughly 500 right there. What options should I get on the Sub. And 4 gauge wiring would be fine, correct? I just would like to come up with a total cost build sheet for my project, because i'd need a enclosure also.

or would it be worth it for me to run THAT kicker amp, and get the Q in a 12 or 15". Just minimizing my options now.

bump*

I plan on getting 15" SSD with flatwind coil. Is there any options I should get otherwise? I want to get the Kicker amp that Chad recommended, but I am going to run the FI on my current amp till I can afford the Kicker. Should I get Dual 1 or 2 Ohm also?

SSD and Sundown 1000d is a pretty good match.

Or a Kicker 750.1.

Both good amps.

But the coil options need to fit whichever amp you get. Kickers need to be wired at 2ohms, so you'll need a dual 1. To able to reach at 2ohm in series.

What amp do you have now?

the amp is by far nothing great. I got it free from a buddy, he didn't want it any more.

It is a Lanzar Vibe 250. Puts out 1000W max at 2ohm. It is a 2channel amp btw. I was just going to take it easy on the gains, and use that till I get the money for the Kicker amp, being that sundown is too costly really.

What is a 15" Solobaric L7 in comparison to a SSD, mainly listening to rap and on occasion rock. On the Kicker zx750.1? Thanks

L7's can get really loud, but you can't overpower square subs bo more than about 50 watts, with square subs, the corners are farther away from the center than the sides, and they length difference causes a LOT of cone flex, and what in turn causes mechanical failure, L5's and L7's are notorious for mechanical failure. Trust me, I have destroyed 4 different L7's in my day. They are an expensive sub to replace. Stick with round subs, like the Kicker CVX, which is the round version of the L7 (And the 750.1 is meant for a 12" CVX or 12" L7, the 15" will need the ZX 1000.1). Good luck though! Get Fi, its wayyyy better!

what is the comparison in loudness and clarity for the ssd though. I most likely will not go with kicker now that I have heard this.

kicker subs in my experience are meant more for higher hz and are not that great on the lows compared the the ssd's.

I actually have 2 12" ssd's for sale and my friend has a kicker zx1000.1 forsale. 1 of the ssds has minor cosmetic damages and i am

willing to let go cheaper. I should be starting a forsale thread soon for my old setup. If your intrested send me a pm.

Alright so it looks like I am going with the 15" SSD (need inputs on what options to get) and most likely the kicker zx750.1 What size enclosure should i go with (ported) and what tune. It is mainly for rap, so a 33hz-35? And it will be for a 2000 Cavalier.

I used to run a 12" SSD off a Hifonics 1206d and had zero problems with the amp. As everyone knows, its over rated and tends to over heat but I have to admit I was pretty happy with mine. I have since sold the SSD and now run a 15" Mag off the Hifonics and it still is going strong. With that said, if I had the money back when I bought the amp, I would have chosen a different amp with better quality for the SSD. The ZX750.1 would be a nice choice for the SSD. So would the Sundown 1000D and another 40 other amps lol.

Nice choice in the SSD, I liked mine a lot. I had mine in a 2.1cuft box tuned to 33hz and loved it. 33hz seems to be a favorite tuning for a lot of Fi users I know.

I love the Mag, love everything about it. I'm running it sealed now but hope to be running ported here in a few weeks. Also saving up for better quality amps as well.

I was also looking into the 12" FISSD and the 12" FIQ . I was concerned about the cubic feet that is requiered for the subwoofer, i dont want to take up my whole cargo space. The setup i currently have is one kicker mono amp ZX 750.1 along with one 12" L7 (4ohm) in a prefab kicker vs ported box. The reason i was looking into the SSD and the FIQ was becuase i wanted to get good sound quality, is the SQ from these fi subs compared to the L7 signifacaly noticable because i want good SQ. By the way the car is a 2001 chevy blazer (SUV) and im not sure if i should go sealed or ported. I listen to RAP/HIP-HOP, trance and sometimes ROCK. What would be the pros and con going with a sealed or ported box. THNX, i dont mean to hijack the thread but we R in the same situation. THNX again

I'd go sealed if sound quality is anywhere near a priority, but you say you listen to rap/hip-hop so I'm confused :)

x2, but i have a ssd and i have heard a 15" l7 and mine walked all over it in sound quality, but, both subs were in ported box, his was prefab, and mine was custom, about the same output and my ssd is 12"

if you're going to go sealed, i choose the q, ported, you could go either or depending upon your tastes
