Audiopulse Epic 8" Enclosure Questions

Recommended Posts

I have an AP Epic 8" sub coming in the mail from Mike @ soundsplinter.

I have yet to ever hear or play with these and want to know what others have had good results with.

(enclosure size, tune freq, port area)

ask ///M5 about his rl-i8 enclosure. that would be the berries for your epic. damn near the same driver, if not the same.

small enclosure requirements equals a pretty long port lol.

it is fun making a slot port box for them while trying to limit the amount of turns in the port.

///M5 on here very often?

Any links for his build?

he's on here daily. just drop him a pm, he'll give ya the specs. basic rundown....

gross enclosure size was over 3.5 cubes, because of port. net size was well under one cube, lol.

my sealed box for my rl-i8 is .17ft^3 net. box barely big enough to hold the woofer. IIRC, ///M5's ported box is .65 net. which is in the ballpark.

mrray13 what do you think of the sealed .17cuft box?

That is almost ridiculous in size.

thats all it takes for one sealed

you can put two . 5 cu. ft. ported and get a good response only prob. is it needs a port like 75 or so inches long.

iirc with the motor having such a high bl it will not require a large box, i may be mistaken on this.

You have a PM, but I'd also add on the sealed front that .2 is too small. I would pick to do around .4cuft a piece (at least for the Rli8, which I would venture to guess will be really simliar). I had mine in .3 and .4 and much preferred the .4.

AP site claims .5~1cuft for sealed, and .8~1.5cuft for ported, which is so far larger than anyone has used or recommended thus far.

Thus the need for getting feedback. :P

Hmmm....those specs sound about right for a 10''. Seems a little big to me for an 8''.

the .17ft^3 sounded just fine in room, more then enough for the power it was getting. in car was a bit different, although it still works. will the larger ones ///M5 suggested work better? i'd lean towards yes, he's a bit more anal about sq then i am.

the biggest ported i built for the rl-i8 was 1.25ft^3@35hz. i can't remember port size though. it got very loud, and even took 1700wrms for a bit, but was definitely peaky. to be honest, .65-.85ft^3 net, tuned low to mid 30s, should be a great enclosure.

WOOHOO!!

Fedex brought me a present today!!

I forget sometimes how small an 8" really is, and this thing is tiny. I think the motor structure really makes the woofer look smaller than it actually is. I cannot wait to get this box done to see what this little monster can really do.

I am planning on .8cuft tuned to 28hz, or as close as I can get with a mostly FG box.

Hope to have it finished within a week or so.
