12" Q w/ or w/o BP option

Recommended Posts

I'm new to the message board and just wondering if I should get my Q with or without the BP option. It will be run in a 2.5cuft box tuned to 32Hz and powered by a Diamond Audio D5 1200.1. The amp does rated power at 12v so I'm probably looking at about 1300rms on my electrical.

welcome to ssa

are you going to run it daily or for comps only?

no, no comps for me. I just want a decently loud setup that will pound the lows and sound good doing it. Eventually, I'll be getting rid of my truck and getting a car so the sub will probably be sealed later down the road.

hmm, well, might as well go with cooling as precaution, but if money doesn't permit then you shouldn't need it if your amp is setup right

I'm not a fan of the BP option, you really don't need it if sounding good is anywhere near a priority. The sub gets more than loud enough without even approaching the maximums specified by Fi, definitely past the point of "sounding good" without any cooling options.

But tons of people manage to either set things up wrong, or simply ignore the recommendations...if the broken tinsel lead threads are any indication :)

get the BP to help cover user error

thats what i did with my Q12

its getting around 12-1400watts rms

and it sounds incredible. i have to disagree with ^^^ because i have no clue how my Q could possibly sound any better than it already does with BP power. jmo

Umm... maybe you should re-read what Jim said. He didn't say that the BP Power option would make it sound any different. What he said is that the only reason you would get the BP Power is to increase the power handling of the sub, resulting in a louder subwoofer. But the Q will get more than loud enough with a lot less that its rated power. Meaning that if you actually want to hear the music, you probably won't bring the subwoofer to its maximum level. Meaning he doesn't need the BP Power option...
