Fi Q10 in a 350Z?

Recommended Posts

I got a 350Z recently and I'll be redoing the entire sound system using mostly parts I had from prior systems that I took apart years ago. Long story short I'll be building a fiberglass corner box, sealed, about 0.5 cuft and I can put a 10" sub in there. The FiQ10 seems to fit the bill with the limited space I have and the amp I have laying around (Directed 1100d, used it to power an RE SX15 that I need to sell still)

So I'm guessing the Q10 with BP Power just to be safe and I should be good, right?

Front stage is going to be CDT M6i components (M6 mids, DRT26 silk tweets, EX-560 crossover i *THINK*) in door pods that I'm gonna make, tweets probably in stock location., powered by ed 9.4 (i know, i know, no need to rip me) but I do have the amp laying around so why not use it

question is, being that I liked the SX15 when I used it except that it was too loud and the SQ was way missing, will the Q10 make me happy?

I think the q will make you happy, but you are giving up a ton of cone area, so output will for the most part be hindered. With 1000-1100 watts, I don't think you need the BP option.

giving up some output is fine as long as quality goes up. The 350Z is a hatchback so the sub will be in the same compartment, which is very small to begin with, so I think that will make up for at least some of the output loss. The 15 was in the trunk of a large sedan and had no airflow directly to the driver cabin, and was too loud for my taste.. or maybe it was too boomy. I think I just missed having a sealed box.

Build to suggested box size, give it 500-1000 watts or so and tell us how you like it. :)

i've had this discussion with Nick b4 from FI on that power level and the only reason to really go with the BP option would be the extra cooling benefit due to the little bakers oven you'll be putting the sub in.
