I want a SUNDOWN1500

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't buy either the Hifonics or the AQ and really don't understand at all why anyone thinks differently.

Well, I'd own both of those before I bought some other name brands.

But I doubt that will ever happen.

What other brands? Pyramid? Pyle? :D That's about all that's left under those ;)

Well, the AQ and the Hifonics are the same board. I bet the AQ does use better components than the Hifonics though.

Better components. Funny...

If someone really thinks AQ is diffrent than Hifonics, get me a schematic and we can clear it up.

Not bashing the AQ amps, but I think Sundown is better. IMO.

Thats exactly my thought. I have heard good things about the AQ amps but there has to be a reason they are cheaper, they just aren't built to the tank like standards that the SAZ line is.

To go with your post, I did some digging around and asked a few people. What they found was this:

AQ 2200D:

2200D.jpg

HiFonics BXi2607D:

14x2kbr.jpg

Now, these pictures are not close up enough to get exact part numbers of the internal components of these two amplifiers, but take a look at the two pictures and tell me what you see.

i think the colors make all the different blue > browm and the wires are tie wrapped! WTF! .... sundown so worth the extra money ( love my 2 3000s :) ) nothing wrong with a referb from great company that backs their work with 1 year warrenty

Actually now that I look at it the Hifonics uses larger resistors and if you look at the preamp/input sections they are quite different. Also if you study the main section of the board there are differences albeit quite small.

Its all about budget, if you have the money to go new Sundown, you will probably get a better product. If your on a budget the AQ will still get you there. I dug my AQ2200. With Db-r's refurbs in the picture though its pretty much a no brainer if your on a budget. You can get a quality amp at a great price with a 1-yr warranty from the guy that fixes them. Its not like your working through a 3rd party to get an amp fixed like other refurb dealers.

That said I'm stuck between the AQ3500 and a sundown 3000 db-r refurb, hopefully the 3000's come back in stock soon at db-r.

talk to shizzzon about the aq2200.

Only thing he knows about them, is how to make them go *poof*. He's blown two of them.

Haha, i laughed when i read that.

Yea guys, it's not really time to ask me anything about these amps yet since they've been in and out of my hands for about a month so i don't know a lot about them.

This is the only thing i can tell you if anybody wants anything from my own experience-

The AQ2200D is rated to do 700w @4ohm 14.4v

I was able to get it to do 408w @5.39 ohms 13.2v

I am assuming that's pretty much right on target.

When i do finally get these amps back which is next week, Yea!!!, i am only going to test the amps strapped. I am tired of waiting for these amps so the tests are going to be compared to a strapped pair of SAZ-1500ds since that's what this thread is debatin.

I'll make a whole other topic about this so people can find it easier.
