Need help selecting a sub

OKay,

I listen to mostly top 40 ( pop ), and main stream country, and texas country

I have alpine 9886

I have polk mmc 6500 on a ed nine.2

I have a nine.1 which wil power the sub 1200 Wrms @ 1 ohm @ 12.4V manuf spec so I need a D2 sub

truck is covered with raamatt roff, floor, doors etc etc

single 0/1 gauge run w/big 3 adding a second batt in the future and a 200 amp alt also in the future

I can fit either a 12 or a 15 behind my truck seat. with no greater than a 8" mounting depth I have a total of 11 inches of depth so Im saving 3 " for the sub to breath

I am looking for a exceptional performer in a ported enclosure

I have 3 cubes of space readily available, if I get creative I can probably squeeze 4 , Maybe 5 if I go with fiberglass before bracing and port and sub displacments

I want it to get loud but more importantly I want it to sound good, no muddy bass for me please.

I have looked into all the DD line and all the FI lines, DD 3500 and FI Q and FI BL have caught my eye but im looking for more options

I want to stay at or under 300 dollars

I am heavily leaning towars the FI Q preferance is a 12 " woofer

The new SI Mag sounds like it'd be perfect for what you're looking for. Relatively shallow mounting depth, under $300, put it in a sealed enclosure and it'll do all you ask, without the need for a 200A alternator

I agree. Though I might suggest 2 of the BMs instead of the Mag if you can handle the cone area of two 12's. Should get a little louder and might handle the 1200 watts a little better than a single mag. and I think they'll only be 150 shipped each when they come out in a couple weeks.

With your music choice I'm surprised you want a ported enclosure. I'm also surprised you looked at DD with your music choice. FI Q would be good though.

Look @ the t3 ts-12 or tss12. The tss-12 should work for your application. We have done them 2 cube ported many times with great success. www.t3audio.com

the SSA ICON 12 would work great as well. only needs 2ft^3 ported and will eat up the 1200wrms and give you great sound and plenty of output in return.

the Soundsplinter Rl-p is another great choice. though 1200wrms is on the high side for it, but with proper gain setting, should work great.

the mach5 IXL or spl 12. while i've not heard either driver, if either driver performs the way the maw12 did, they would be a great choice.

and as mentioned, either a pair of BMs, or a single Mag, would be a great choice. the pair of BMs might even be a better road simply due to cone area, efficiency and mounting depth.

and you can't go wrong with the Q. another fine option.

More than likely you won't see anywhere near 8-10 db more from a ported enclosure unless you build a fart cannon. You'll likely see about 3 db with the tuning frequency you'll want to use. Also, if you use two 12's sealed in the same airspace as one 12 ported, the results will likely be about even.

you sir are correct I completly misrepresented a comparrison I read on ROE

The problem with going to two drivers is that I will also need to add a second amp and strap them or invest in a 3kd from SDA

While I would love to do just that the fact that doing so would require me to spend another grand on my build instead of the 300ish I have remaining to finish it up.

Maybe n the future when the economy improves and the dollar gains strength and im not spending 800 dollars a month on fuel that can happen but for right now I think one sub is the way to go, especially with monetary considerations included.

you wouldn't need a second amp if you got 2 of either of the stereo integrity offerings. The Mag is rated 600-1000 watts I think, and the BM is 200-600. 1200 would be perfect for a pair of BMs or a single Mag and either choice would keep you under 300 dollars.

But if you want an Icon or Q, that's cool too. But I don't know much about either driver. Obviously heard lots of good things.

I think you're falling into the "more power is better" trap, and it's causing you to think you need to spend a lot more money than is really required...
