looking for suggestions on sealing doors

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for the best way to make the audio inside quieter on the outside. if that makes sense... I want to isolate the sound so with the windows up you cant hear the music playing inside as easily. Right now im trying to focus on the midrange as that seems to be the "worst". I currently have the midrange in the stock location with damp covering 95% of both door panels. Right now im building door pods but the midrange is still going to be IB so that should help somewhat but not as well as a sealed pod. Do you think adding second skin overkill to the outer door panel would help at all? any other ideas?

When you deadened your doors, did you just do the inner panel (where the interior door handle is)? Or did you do the door skin and the exterior panel as well? Doing all three will greatly dampen how much you hear outside your car.

Then again, no car is air tight, the best you can hope for is better than stock. You might also try thicker weather seals around the door.

i just did both metal panels with the vibration mat and ive done nothing on the interior plastic panel. I was hoping/ planning on doing some overkill somewhere but its going to be a PITA no matter which panel i try to do so i was wondering/thinking if doing the outer panel would give help reduce noise inside the car and help reduce the volume of the music outside as well. Im thinking putting it there would do the least to prevent noise coming inside but if it would help keep the noise down outside i might as well do it.

My cars an 06 so i cant really justify buying new weather stripping even if i could find some thicker stuff (wouldnt know where to look either) Id really like the crazy double weatherstripping ive seen on a benz but thats never gonna happen.

Lol, don't even try talking about justification buddy. You cut your core support to fit a second alt.

What brand of deadener did you use?

1 layer per panel or what?

what kind of power are you running to the doors?

Put an extra layer (or two) on the (inside lol) of the outside panel. That will make a difference for sure. As for the PC 4200, I believe that is rated at 25x4. Do you mean that you are running it "bridged" to a pair of CDT mids?

Btw, Nice ride man. I haven't been back to NM in a long time. I hope that you're getting green chillies on your next pizza

nah sry im running it active i just refer to it as biamped sometimes. so only 2 channels are going to the mids.... i think its more power then that because right now is by far the loudest i have ever been. while i havent really bumped the gain on any of my amps that high its at least twice as loud as the same setup on a 801x passive (100X4)

It's all good man. I should of had gotten that. I am really up late tonight. What is the fuse rating on the amp? What kind of headunit are you running? I can see that it may be a very under-rated amp. But, I am not sure? I know that my old Xtant 3300x was really under-rated.

Foam isn't going to do much in that application. If you have speakers mounted in the doors in the normal way, where the back wave hits the outer door skin, use a decoupled barrier, like Luxury Liner Pro, on top of your vibration damper.
