Installed my final charging system

Recommended Posts

I've been running things off 1 alternator and 5 optimas for quite a while now, problem after problem kept delaying me getting my charging system right. About a month ago I finally got everything in, and just figured I'd say I'm very pleased.

I ordered 3 alternators and a 4 alt bracket through Iraggi and was met with terrible customer service. He didn't respond to emails or calls for weeks on end. I finally got the alts in twice the time he promised (the only reason I went with him for alts) just to find he didn't send my bracket. After being promised I'd be called for weeks and even having his girlfriend/wife answer to just hang up on me the bracket finally arrived. I don't mind a long build time- understand that. It's just a problem when someone says one thing and does another. Also all my alternators look different inside and out. 2 of the cases are obviously refurbs, and the internal parts of 2 of them look used/blackened. I will say everything seems to be working good now, and the bracket was really something I couldn't get anywhere else.

On the other end of the spectrum I ordered an MLA module to go with the alternators. Good thing I did- because even after 2 shipments and 2 orders Iraggi didn't include the wiring (plugs) like he said he would. The guys are absolutely awesome. Respond every time, answer the phone during business hours (and often much later too) and shipping time was just a few days after build. They even kept me updated during the build. I recieved the first "Pro" module, which has a few features the original didn't including a high/low setting so that I can go from around 15.5v around 1000rpms to 14.4 for daily use. My factory idling voltage was 13.8 btw. MLA has been absolutely fantastic, and I would recommend them as a company, and their product to anyone.

I have 3 spools of kicker 1/0 wire to add in the mix, but with 8,000rms for 30+ seconds of test tones the voltage at the front doesn't dip below 14.3-14.4. There is voltage loss to the back, but I have to add all this wire in before I really go into that too much.

After I add in the wire I'll post up how it holds 16,000rms.

The final product: MLA module, 1 130a alternator and 3 "380" amp alternators, with 6 batteries.

Bad directions ftl- have to move a few things to add in those extra pulleys.

So far it'll do 152 and change sealed at the dash at 32hz, but I that was the first time I've metered it since I've done a bunch of changes, so plenty more to go (including 2x the power).

Thanks guys!

I'm really not trying to compare/compete with anyone else though, you know? There just are so few 'big' setups around where I live in SC-and no one with more than dual alts.

Very nice alt install!!!

I would suggest flipping the Optima's over though... if your voltage ever exceeds 15.0v you may squirt all the juice out of em ;) Could get messy... and expensive :)

Thanks. I haven't had any problems- but I am working on getting them out of the car all together.
