Advice on 12" sub under $300

Recommended Posts

I want to purchase a 12" sub to be powered by a Soundstream Rubicon 702. Since I have limited trunk space I would rather a sealed enclosure. I use to own a 15" Kicker Solobaric (round version from the late 90's) that was being powered by this same amp and I loved it but it took up my entire trunk. The box was huge. So big I had to aim the sub upwards since it didn't fit facing front or back. So far I've liked the reviews for the Fi Q12 but I'm still very open to suggestions. I was also looking at the kicker cvx12 since I think it would be very similar to my old 15" which I really liked the bass that it produced. I'm just worried I might be disappointed having it in a smaller enclosure. I'm not into competitions I just love music; trance, breakbeats, hip-hop, salsa, etc... I guess I'm more into SQ but I do want to feel the bass not just hear it.

I can't say that I'd recommend a newer Kicker sealed, the CVX will be fine but think the Fi Q, Icon, SS Rlp and similar will be significantly better.

Thanks again M5. Any one of those you think would be a good match for my setup which you can find in my other post?

I agree with Sean ^^, those three (yes I am biased towards the Icon, but know and love all of them) are very safe bets. If you were to try something all new in the same general category, there is the Incriminator Flatlyne, or Mach5 IXL 12.2.2. Both have the same kind of great performance and customer service as the prior three mentioned sub woofers. :)

If I were in the market for a new sub I would choose:

FI Car Audio Q series - SQ sub that can get loud, detailed and tight, biggest Xmax of the bunch (27mm), options can be added to handle more power, 1000rms, sealed 0.8 to 1.5cuft, $259each /// would choose 1 to be used with a 1000rms amp

SSA Icon - LSQ (don't flame me) sub that is built like a tank, has a distinct quick sound to it (can't really explain better), 1000rms, sealed .85 to 1.2cuft, $249each /// would choose 1 to be used with a 1000rms amp

Stereo Integrity New Mag (not out yet but available in a couple of weeks, I hope lol) - said to be one of the best SQ around, clarity is second to none, Dual2 ONLY, 1000rms, recommened in 1cuft sealed, price around $250each /// would choose 1 to be used with 600 to 1000rms amp.

Image Dynamics IDQv.3 series - SQ sub that can get loud, have a warm sound to it, 500rms, sealed .65 to 1cuft - $299 each /// would choose 1 to be used with 500rms amp.

I listen to all genre, however more electro, trance, tribal from Ti

bump. Please advise on D1 or D2 sub.

If you are running the amp @ 2ohm you want a D1. Id recommend the Q, SSD or the new Mag btw.
