What headunit to get???

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have a Fi Q 15 on the way thats getting ran off of about 1000-1200 watts from a Sundown 1500. I currently have a Pioneer 4900iB and the display has been kinda getting funky and the knob is starting to stick a little. I bought it with all my stuff when I was doing my first system, and now I want to upgrade. It's currently running some Infinity Reference 6.5 coax's off headunit power. I know that it probably wont be able to keep up with the 15 at high volumes. I was really thinking of getting a Premier 880prs or the copper plated 800prs. I dont know if I want to run active at the moment. I will be upgrading to some components soon. I think if I go passive I'll pick up a used JL 300/2 and if active than maybe a 300/4.

Any good recommendations for a HU?

Budget? If your goal is active eventually, go for the 800 or the 880.

If your buget is kinda tight why not go with a Alpine 9886. A very good deck with lots of HU power and 4v pre-outs if you want to amplify. It's also got USB, which means it's got Ipod and Flash stick control right out of the box. It should be available at a certain blue and yellow big box store, at least it is up here in Canada.

should be around $300.

I would like to be able to go active without changing my deck out. Budget is about $350 or so. I was originally going for a pioneer AVIC-D3 but it's a little on the pricey side atm.

I think I'll get a 4ch amp and bridge it to 2ch if I want to start with passive and unbridge to go active. How does that sound.

I have heard the only difference between the 800 and the 880 is the copper plated chassis and the face plate. Is that really all?

Ya Alpine's CDA-9886 is a sweet deck. I have one in my DD/winter beater.

Also give you the ability to go active and use the PXA-H701 later on should you choose.

Its also right in you budget range.
