Hey guys, here's my predicament. I currently have an Alpine 9881 that I use to control my 6.5" Component set of adire koda's up front. The koda's run off a Rockford 800a2 @ 4 ohms getting...maybe 150rms I think. However, I know I can get some better SQ out of them if I pick up my head unit features.

Here's some of the things i am hoping for and what I am not really worried about.

Need:

Good iPod control ( I love the alpine one now, but am open to others)

HP and LP filters (The 9881 now only has very limited options). A variable slope would be nice too

CD Player(no mech-less ones for me)

Good EQ flexibility (a parametric would be nice)

T.A. Would also be nice

Single Din

Don't need:

The main things I don't need are any fancy extras like navigation or whatnot

and biggest thing would probably be that i'm not worried about running active. If I do decide to do active, it'll be far enough down the road that It'll involve a new HU and new amp and the works

The 9887 is pretty high up on my list, but it is also a huge jump up from the 9881. My question I guess is if it is overkill and if there are a few HU's between those two HU's that will fit my need. The 9887 is a bit overkill for what I need, but it might also be necessary to get the other things I want.

Let me know what your ideas are!

As for budget...maybe 200-300.

With the Adire's I'd lean towards something that is active capable and using them that way. ie 9887 or 800prs

i agree there Sean, the 9887 is a good little unit for the planned use, and fits the budget. www.newegg.com has em for $299. mine came to $309 with shipping. Good luck on your quest

You guys really think its worth running the koda's as active? I am not unsatisfied with the way they sound now, but at the same time, I haven't heard their full potential. kinda like running a sony sub and thinking its good, then switching over to Fi and realizing you were missing so much maybe?

If I have to run active, the 9887 looks like a perfect deal for me then you guys are thinking? Or should I maybe up my anty and look into some other ones for running active? I'm not a hard core SQ guy or anything, but I am getting over running the whole big sub in the trunk thing and am trying to make the switch over to no sub and just the koda's up front.

Lemme know!

I just got a factory sealed refurb Pioneer 880 for about 200 plus ship, I figure it has had the bugs worked out. It looks like new.

If you are getting rid of your sub, I'd definitely want some active power...and some eq.

So k, lets say I want to ditch the big sub idea(maybe an Rli-8 or something like that instead), or the sub all together. You'd recommend maybe getting the 9887 or similar and running these koda's active? The 6.5's put out a decent amount of bass, but I think maybe I'm just a bit scared of running them at full potential because I've been so used to running a stock set-up with the sub covering the mid range duties as well.

Lets get some recommendations for me then on an active set-up. I have the Rockford 800a2 currently, but I'll need to upgrade to a 4 channel correct?

So lets say this as my new set-up maybe...

Sundown 100.4 or something similar in output

Alpine 9887

Adire Koda 6.5's running active

for the sub...maybe a powerful 8" or something along those lines. I saw sundown was selling the subs for 40 bucks if there's even any left. I have a 1500D I could use to run any of these options.

Rears I just have a crappy set of JBL's that I fade out unless I have passengers and remember to fade it back, but so far none of them have noticed.
