Questions about Sundown Audio amplifiers

Recommended Posts

I am interested in a four channel amplifier and have been looking at ARC, Sundown, and a few more. Has anyone compared the SQ of these and other amplifiers? Also, where is the Sundown amplifiers made? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sundown amplifiers have been reviewed against audison and fared very well. They are engineered in the US, built by one of the best build shops in Korea.

I would choose sundown over any other company from a pure customer service/ and quality for you dollar perspective.

They are manufactured in South Korea (all amps except the upcoming SAE-1200D which is made in China).

A shop owner (Audison Dealer) reviews the SAX-100.4 vs an Audison amp that his shop carries:

Many SQ people running active are using the SAX-100.4. :)

I doubt you'll be able to tell a difference in sound between similarly-measuring amplifiers of the same topology...I can't say I'd choose Sundown over any other company out there, but they're very nice amplifiers :)

I'm with Jim on this one. Even if there were differences you won't hear them in your car.

Tim,

What amp would you select is you were interested in SQ?

Thanks

haha I like how on his post it says RIckRolled but on the quote it says RickRolled. But I agree with Jim/Rick and M5 on this one. You shouldn't really be able to hear a difference in amps unless one is broken.

The one that will sound the best is the one hooked up to the better installed set of good speakers and properly tuned. The amp is the absolute least important thing in an SQ oriented system. Just get more power than you plan to use and call it good.

a little off topic, but does anyone know if a sundown saz1500d could play for long periods of time wired at 1 ohm at 1500rms without overheating(say like 45 minutes staight)?

Provided sufficient cooling, it shouldn't have problem. Jacob over designed it. I never pushed mine all that hard, but i live in Vegas and ran it daily @ 1 ohm and it never got noticably above ambient temperature.

I have my user name back now :P

As long as they measure the same ;) And Sundowns use a pretty tried-and-true topology, there won't be any sonic difference there.
