Getting louder?

Recommended Posts

Now that I'm working agian, I'm ready to spend some of the money I just made...

I have a Q10 and talked to Nick a while back about changing the coils from dual 1ohm to dual 2ohm in order to match my sae-1000D better. My question is: since the sub would be in the hands of Fi for the recone to change the coils, would it be worth it to upsize to a bigger cone as well? such as a 12 or 15? I will run this sealed because it is in an extended cab s10. So basically, will going from 600rms to 1100rms make a big difference or not? Thanks in advance,

Mike B.

That should be a pretty big difference imo. If you had a difference of 100-200w, probably not. But you're almost doubling the power to the sub.

Okay, I'll just stick with the 10'' then, that is good to know because I don't really want to built another box.

personally i'd go with a 12 if you're concerned with being louder, but i'd just buy a 12" with D2 coils isntead of having all that work done to yours. plus you'd have an extra sub if you go with a new one.

I say make sure you electrical and handle it, and drop that bitch to .5 ohms, sundown amps are very solid, and although not warrantied, if your electrical will keep the voltage up, you could get 1300 watts to that sub with that amp np. that's my opinion. changing coils IMO is basically a waste of time. for all that time/money you would most likely be disappointed, grab an extra battery, entry-level powermaster/kinetik, and drop it to .5 ohm. just have to make sure amp is in a cool spot. and if that doesn't do it for ya man, cone area is the absolute best way to increase volume.

do not drop the SAE line to 1/2 ohm, if you want to run at 1/2 ohm go with the 1500d instead.

don't kill your warranty and risk blowing your amp AND sub. do it the right way.

I will not run my sae at .5ohms. I posted a question about it a while back and everyone said NO don't do it. If it was just for burps that would be different.

Anyway, would a jump from 10'' to 12'' really do that much? And I could go with a whole new sub, I didn't really think about that... It just seems like I could save myself some cash by using my motor but i'll keep my options open.

Your biggest problem is space.

Your biggest problem is space.

As per M5's quote, extended cab don't have much space to work with... BUT...

I would suggest you to buy another Q10 instead of a Q12 and try to fit it (if possible).

2xQ10 will give you the impedance you need to run, more lows (at least twice as loud, almost tripple) and as nick was stating in a previous post:

running 2 subs @ half power VS 1 sub @ full will give you a more controlled sound, stressing the sub less.

Hope that helps.

Humm... I had not even though of adding another woofer. So the Q on 500 watts will be okay if there is two of them? I def have the space for another as right now, I have it sealed at .6 cubes. I think I could even build a ported box and still keep the use of one of my jump seats. Thanks for your input,

Mike B.

I just went out to the truck and took some measurement and I figure that I can comfortably get 4 cubes before port, sub and bracing... What do you think?
